Welcome
Welcome to the inaugural edition of The GridWise Wire, a monthly transmission on grid modernization distributed by GridWise Alliance. We will use this space to update you on the activities of GridWise Alliance and our efforts in the industry to modernize the grid.
A Turning Point for the Electric Grid--Podcast Discussion
GridWise Alliance CEO, Karen Wayland, recently sat down with The Optimistic Outlook podcast host and Siemens USA CEO, Barbara Humpton, to discuss the future of grid modernization in the United States, including the role of local communities in that effort.

"I don't think we'll ever get to a point where we live without power outages. So what we need to make sure is that it isn't just about keeping the lights on all of the time, but that we're building resilience into the community as well. I think that's what's really important about the federal funding--it's that some of the money will go to utilities and some of the money will go to local communities who can address their needs."
Letter to the Secretary of Energy on Distribution Transformers Supply Chain
GridWise Alliance recently joined with a coalition of grid industry stakeholders (NEMA, EEI, NRECA, APPA, NAHB, and LBA) to write a letter to Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, urging the Department of Energy (DOE) to reconsider draft energy efficiency standards for distribution transformers that the DOE released in January.

Our letter argues that the proposed standards would exacerbate the already severe shortage of transformers, while only resulting in a tiny increase in efficiency.
