JAG Youth Council Receives Grant

Find Yourself FridayMembers of the JAG Youth Council received a $1,000 for their Youth Venture proposal! The Youth Venture program empowers youth to become influential community leaders. Through this program youth have the opportunity to create and launch their own community-benefiting projects. The council proposed "Find Yourself Fridays," which will be an event once a month on a Friday at the Youth Center that involves youth from the JAG Youth Council, youth who attend the Milford Youth Center, and all the Milford and Hopedale Public Schools. The first event will be on Friday, January 28th from 7-10PM. The Youth hope to address the issue of homelessness and have a magician for entertainment. More information to follow.

Jingle Bell Jamboree and Santa Parade a Success

Director Jim Sanchioni and the Milford Youth Commission would like to thank those who made the Second Annual Jingle Bell Jamboree, which was held Dec. 5, a success.

Milford Residents enjoyed a free event, including arts & crafts, snacks and music .The second annual Toys for Tots drive also culminated at the Jingle Bell Jamboree. The Milford Youth Center, along with many residents and local businesses, were able to collect hundreds of gifts for children in need this holiday.

 After assisting at the arts & crafts table, youth from the Milford Youth Center and JAG Youth Council were also able to ride on the first Youth Center/JAG float, which they helped create, during the parade!

Community Impact Receives Grant for Youth Center

The Milford Youth Center received a $1,000 grant to help pay for equipment for daily physical activities and discussion regarding the importance of being physically active.

The funding is coming from Community Impact, an independent consulting group and private practice for adolescent mental health issues. Community Impact was awarded funding from SHAPE UP! Mini-Grant Program 2010 through the Healthy Futures Initiative through the Franklin Hockomock YMCA.

Hannafords Gives Generous Donation

On Dec 21 Jon Burnham of the Milford Hannaford made a most surprising visit to the Milford Youth Center. With him was a $500.00 check to support the programs of the Center. "Hannaford has been a big supporter of the Milford Youth Center and especially of our Nutrition & Health programs. We cannot thank them enough" - Jim Sanchioni Director.

2010 Hope for the Holidays

United Way logoOn Dec 21st the United Way of Tri-County & the Milford Youth Center made the Holidays a little brighter for 20 families. The Milford Youth Center took part in the United Ways 2010 Hope for the Holidays program.

MYC Mans Kettles

For the second year in a row the Milford Youth Center volunteered to participate in the annual Milford Salvation Army Kettle Drive. The children and staff manned the kettles for four nights at the Milford Shaws location. It was a wonderful experience for the youth to participate and help those who are less fortunate.  We are very thankful and proud of our youth volunteers!

January 2011 After School Activities

Join us this January for our after school activities. Every month the Youth Center has daily scheduled activities available to our members.  

A new program this month is Music Production, instructed by Stephen Cassinelli- pianist/singer/songwriter/producer, 30 years experience in music performance and recording.

The Boxing program will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:00PM, instructed by Assistant Director Sidney De Jesus. The program will teach basic technique and fundamentals. It is open to all abilities and youth ages 8-18.

Basketball Free Throw Competition

Please join in the fun with the Knights of Columbus annual Free Throw Competition! The competition will be held at the Milford Youth Center on Saturday, January 8, 2011 from 9-12 noon. This free event is for boys and girls, ages 10-14. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and they will then move on to the next stage of competition to be held on Sat. February 5th at the Youth Center from 9-12 noon.

Softball Hitting Clinic being held at Youth Center

The Milford Youth Center is collecting registration forms for a 4 week/8 class softball hitting clinic. The clinic will go over basic hitting techniques and fundamentals. All participants may bring their own bats and helmets. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Milford Youth Center from 7-8PM starting January 4, 2011. The cost is $40/player. We are taking registrations up until Monday, January 3rd.
