Dear Lake Norman Charter Families,
As the days get cooler, the chance for inclement weather increases, and we want to share with you our process for communicating inclement weather impacts to the school day.
We attempt to make any decisions regarding the closing of school or delaying the start time by 5:30am but no later than 6:00am. These decisions are based on weather conditions in our immediate school area and are not necessarily aligned with the decisions that other schools make regarding delays and cancellations. This point is worth mentioning as some incorrectly assume that LNC is closed whenever the local public school makes the decision to cancel school. Please note that we do not make any announcement in the event that school remains open.
LNC will announce any decision to cancel or delay school through a number of channels including:
- Email and text using the contact information that we have on file for each student. Please use the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to check the boxes to receive LNC texts (Emergency, Attendance, General and Priority) and to update your family's contact information
- Schoology through LNC2HSP, LNC2MSP, LNC2ESP and the “class of” groups. Be sure you are joined to your school’s LNC2 parent group! (Click here for a list of joining codes)
- Local TV affiliates WSOC (ABC), WBTV (CBS), WCNC (NBC) and they will broadcast our information
As we say often, the safety of our students and families is our highest priority and will be our guiding principle in making any closing or delay decisions.
In addition, in the next few days your student will bring home a brochure from Duke Energy entitled "McGuire Nuclear Station 2025 Emergency Preparedness Information" that we are required to provide you. After reading the brochure, if you have any questions, please refer to Duke Energy's Emergency Preparedness guide or Duke Energy's website.
