Good afternoon,
The district is currently working with weather professionals to monitor the incoming inclement weather. We are currently under a tornado watch until 11:00 p.m. However, those professionals are indicating that our area's largest threat for severe weather, which could possibly include tornadoes, will be between 3:00-5:00 p.m. The timing of this storm makes it very difficult to plan for, but we wanted to share some general information with you in the case that this severe weather does impact our area during dismissal time.
Our first priority will always be student safety. Should the district be included in a tornado warning or imminent threat at dismissal time, students will be placed in shelter locations and will not be dismissed to car lines, parking lots or buses. In the case of immediate danger, schools will be available for those picking up students to shelter during the storm. As a reminder, Lyon, EC and Sweeny students will all be sheltered at the FEMA Safe Room at Sweeny. However, these students will be dismissed from their home building.
That said, dismissal times could vary today, which will also impact bus route times. Depending on how quickly the storm is moving and its approximate arrival time, it is possible that the district could either dismiss students early or hold students for a later dismissal than usual. If dismissal times are changed, additional communication will be sent to you. Rest assured that if dismissal times are delayed school personnel will be on site as long as needed to care for students.
If your child's after school transportation plan for today will be different than normal due to the incoming weather, please contact your student's school as soon as possible. Also, all after school activities, including the book fair have been canceled today.
We Missourians know just how unpredictable the weather can be, but we also know the importance of having a plan in place should severe weather arrive.
Thank you in advance for your flexibility!
Please be weather aware and have a safe rest of your day.
