A Message from Alex Judd, Incoming CPES President
As we welcome 2021, we reflect back on 2020. It was an unprecedented year in so many ways. We at CPES are thankful for our members, partners and friends and their ongoing dedication to the organization. We are incredibly fortunate to have such great partnerships! We want to give an extra thanks to our immediate past president Eric Johnson for his exceptional leadership during the COVID-19 disruptions that allowed us to continue fulfilling the mission of being Connecticut’s premier resource for information-sharing and networking in the energy industry, by hosting our programming virtually and safely.
From our computers in 2020, we engaged in meaningful discussions about some of the most pressing topics facing the energy industry, including retail energy choice, energy storage, electric vehicles, the impacts of COVID-19 on the energy industry, and the pathways to decarbonization. We heard from regulators in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Maine, CEOs of energy companies across the country, third-party competitive suppliers, and renewable energy developers, and many more. CPES’ New Energy Professionals continued their tradition of hosting the 101 series as we heard PURA leadership discuss recent organization changes and current agency priorities. We ended 2020 celebrating our own – awarding two Rising Stars and two Excellence in Energy awards as we engaged in a night of virtual celebration with a keynote address from NASA.
We now look to 2021 and all the opportunities it will bring to continue expanding approaches to engage our membership. We start the year with a virtual panel on renewable energy financing on January 21 to discuss project development at the municipal, state, and commercial level. On February 9, we virtually host our Annual Legislative Preview with the Energy & Technology committee leadership. We look forward to building on this momentum as we continue to be devoted to advancing the energy industry through our educational programs and virtual networking events.
