President Trump Plans to Speak at HIMSS20 to Address Interoperability

President Donald Trump will attend the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference next week. HIMSS senior director of strategic communications Karen Groppe confirmed to FierceHealthcare that Trump plans to address conference attendees at 4 p.m. Monday regarding healthcare interoperability.

Interoperability is a hot topic given that HHS is expected to drop a major health IT regulation before or during HIMSS. Read more
COVID-19: New ICD-10-CM Code and Interim Coding Guidance
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services: MLN Connects; Feb 27, 2020

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Health Statistics will implement a new ICD-10-CM diagnosis code for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), effective with the next update on October 1. See the announcement and interim coding guidance for more information.
Start Using New Diagnosis Code for Vaping-related Disorder on April 1
American Academy of Pediatrics; Mar 3, 2020

In response to the recent cases of vaping-related disorders, the World Health Organization (WHO) established a new International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) emergency code, U07.0, which can be used in the United States starting April 1.

In addition, a new chapter was added to ICD-10 and the clinical modification (ICD-10-CM), which is used in the United States. Chapter 22 is titled “Codes for Special Purposes” and lists “U” codes (U00-U85) that have been added to the code set. A new section also will be created (U00-U49) for the provisional assignment of new diseases of uncertain etiology or emergency use. Read More
