Celebrate Independence Day at George Washington’s boyhood home! Tour the Washington House, learn about archaeology at Ferry Farm, enjoy a patriotic flag retirement ceremony, interact with historic reenactors, listen to festive music, view living history demonstrations, make crafts, play games, and enjoy other activities for the whole family. Flag retirement ceremony is at 11 am.


Just $1.00 per person, ages 3 and up. Purchase tickets on-site; no advance ticket sales.


Free shuttle parking at the Eagles Lodge on Cool Springs Road and Patawomeck Museum & Cultural Center, shuttle to run between the Eagles parking lot, Ferry Farm, Patawomeck, and Fourth in Fredericksburg events. Handicap accessible parking-only available on-site at Ferry Farm. Parking details.

Betty's Birthday Bash

We celebrate George every year in February, but let’s not forget about his sister, Betty Washington Lewis, born on June 20, 1733. Help us celebrate her 292nd birthday at her home, Historic Kenmore. Have some birthday treats and a cup of tea and learn about life as a lady in the 18th century. Games, crafts, fashion, and more!


Birthday festivities are included with general admission prices at Historic Kenmore.

Family Archaeology Day at Ferry Farm

Friday, June 27, sessions at 10 am and 12 pm


Uncover the past and explore the science of history during Family Archaeology Day at George Washington’s Ferry Farm! This interactive educational program is perfect for kids in grades K-5 and their caregivers. Together, you’ll discover what it means to be an archaeologist while learning about the people who lived at Ferry Farm. After the dig, take a family-friendly tour of the Washington House.

$10 per child participant

$5 per adult attendee

All children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Advanced registration required; space is limited. 

American Revolution Camp

July 14-18, $175

Ages 8-12, 9 am - 12 pm


A few spots remain! Campers will play colonial games, explore historic trades, learn from real historical objects, and even design and test their own model ships. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity to walk in the footsteps of George Washington at both museum sites while exploring the lives of Revolutionary soldiers, sailors, and civilians. This camp alternates locations between Historic Kenmore and George Washington’s Ferry Farm. Registration closes June 30.
