India used to import mobile phones worth USD 8 billion seven years ago and now the country is exporting such devices worth USD 3 billion while reducing imports significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of India's 75th Independence Day, Modi said the government has announced a production linked incentive scheme to further the flagship 'Make in India' mission.

Intel CEO Pitches Pricey Chip Plants to Officials at Home and Abroad

Intel Corp.’s chief executive and other board members met with Biden administration officials last month and held a rooftop reception near the White House to push a multibillion-dollar chip-investment plan, according to people familiar with the event. Computer chips have become the 21st century equivalent of oil—a resource so critical to national security and economic growth that no country wants to become dependent on a foreign supplier, especially for the U.S. and Europe if that supplier is China. The chip shortage, which has hampered production of cars and appliances over recent months, has amplified those concerns.

At $35 billion in July, India records highest-ever monthly exports
|
|
India exported goods worth $35.43 billion in July, the highest first time ever in a month, due to recovery in key global markets and robust demand, according to the data released by the commerce and industry ministry on Friday. Outbound shipments grew by nearly 50 per cent over July 2020, which can be partly attributed to a favorable base. As compared to pre-Covid level, the growth was 35 per cent from July 2019.

During the webinar Policy initiatives in particular production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes for attracting investments across sectors were discussed. Ms. Pooja Kulkarni, Managing Director & CEO Guidance Tamil Nadu briefed the participants about the incentives being provided by Tamil Nadu government for investors. Mr. S. Sundarram, Chairman, IACC (Tamil Nadu) shared his experience in the state. Representatives from ROEDL & Partner, Chennai & Mahindra World City also particiapted in the webinar and shared their ideas. Many investors from the Unites States enthusiastically participated during the webinar. Consul General was accompanied by Deputy Consul General and Consul (Pol & PIC) during the webinar.
