PM promises 500 GW renewable energy to meet India's 50% energy requirements by 2030

Scaling up India’s ambitious agenda to combat climate change, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday 1st November 2021 announced five “amrit tatva” at the COP26 Summit which includes- Firstly, India will bring its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030. Secondly, by 2030 India will fulfil 50% of its energy requirement through renewable energy. Thirdly, India will cut down its net projected carbon emission by 1 bn ton from now until 2030. Fourthly, by 2030 India will bring down the carbon intensity of its economy by more than 45% and fifth, by 2070 India will achieve the target of 'net zero'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday November 01, 2021 pledged to cut India’s net carbon emissions to zero by 2070, even as he exhorted developed countries to make available funds to the tune of $1 trillion for climate adaptation and mitigation.
PM Modi offers ‘One Sun, One grid’ solution to world's fossil fuel crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday November 02, 2021 said use of fossil fuels made some countries prosperous, but made the earth and environment poor. The race for fossil fuels also created geo-political tensions, the Prime Minister said at a session on ‘accelerating clean technology innovation and deployment’ as part of United Nations’ COP26 world leaders’ summit in Glasgow, Scotland.

Commerce minister Piyush Goyal meets US trade representative Katherine Tai

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri. Piyush Goyal met with United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai on Monday November 22, 2021.Accompanied by Deputy United States Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi, United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai is on a two-day visit to India. This is Tai's first visit to India after she took over the office in March this year.

Solar Alliance

The US special envoy for climate, John Kerry, announced at the COP26 in Glasgow that the US has joined the International Solar Alliance as a member country after signing the framework agreement. The US on Wednesday, 10 November 2021 became the 101st member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), an inter-governmental organisation formed by India and France to accelerate the global adoption of solar power.

Shri J P Gupta, Principal Secretary (Finance); Consul General and Mr. Dipesh Shah, Executive Director (Development), International Financial Services Centre addressed the financial services roundtable on November 29, 2021 at the Consulate. More than 50 executive members of various companie including Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Standard Chartered Bank, Zydus USA, CrossTower, CLSA Americas etc. participated in the roundtable discussion. Key area for discussion was GIFT City- Gujarat’s International Fintech and IT hub in Gandhinagar.

A multi sector Roadshow on 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit was held at the Indian Consulate in New York on November 30, 2021

Shri J P Gupta, Principal Secretary (Finance), Consul General and some members of the delegation addressed the multi sector roadshow on November 30, 2021 at the Consulate. The Consulate General of India in New York and the Government of Gujarat, in partnership with USISPF and CII, hosted this interactive roadshow with the government and business delegation from Gujarat for a presentation on investment and partnership opportunities in the state. During the roadshow the delegation presented the Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit that will be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from January 10- January 12, 2022. About 60 executive members of various organization including Bloomberg, Mastercard, Edelweiss etc. participated in the roadshow. Some of the key industry sectors for the roadshow included chemicals, clean energy, financial services, and IT and new technology.
Consulate General of India in New York organized an event to celebrate Ayurveda Day on
2nd November 2021

Ayurveda Day is celebrated on Dhanvantri Jayanti or Dhanteras, a festival that takes place two days before Diwali. Welcoming the guests, Consul General Randhir Jaiswal conveyed his greetings to one and all on the occasion of the sixth Ayurveda Day. He recalled how Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine, was fast becoming relevant to health and well-being in modern times. “To treat ailments today, one has to draw from all available sources of scientific medical knowledge, and for that reason integrative medicine approach which counts on Ayurveda along with other systems, is fast becoming popular” - he noted. The highlight of the event was a panel discussion held on the theme “Ayurveda in everyday life for the modern fast lifestyle”. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Kushal Choksi, a former Wall Street trader who has co-founded ‘Elements Truffles’, an Ayurveda inspired food start-up. The distinguished panelists included Mr. Bhushan Deodhar, an Ayurveda enthusiast and CEO of Shankara Naturals; Ms. Divya Alter, Founder & Director of Bhagavat Life, which is perhaps the only dedicated Ayurvedic culinary center in New York City, and also credited with North America’s first Ayurvedic chef certification program; Ms. Alak Vasa, Co-Founder of Element Truffles, an Ayurveda inspired artisanal chocolate company; and Ms. Nidhi Pandya, Founder of Authentic Ayurveda. The panelists focused their presentations on how to bring Ayurvedic way of living in modern life.

Covaxin approval requested in US for ages 2-18 by Bharat Biotech's partner

Ocugen Inc, Bharat Biotech's partner for the US and Canada for Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin, has submitted a request to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the jab for paediatric use.
