The India Gateway hosted a virtual pre-departure preparation session on July 10, for incoming graduate students from India. In collaboration with the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Student Academic Success and the College of Engineering, the pre-departure session offered the students the opportunity to learn about life at Ohio State, connect with other Buckeyes and gain important information before attending classes. Due to COVID-19, the session was held virtually for the first time.

Although COVID-19 has created numerous uncertainties, Ohio State has continually advocated on behalf of our international students. The university helped secure support for a letter sent to the U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security on behalf of 21 members of congress requesting to preserve the Optional Practical Training program and streamline and expedite visa processing to allow international students to enroll autumn semester. Ohio State also joined an amicus brief challenging the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Student and Exchange Visitor Program guidance barring online-only study for international students in the United States. The university is encouraged that the federal government will be maintaining flexibility for international students to continue their education this fall. Ohio State remains supportive of all our students whether on campus or continuing their studies from home because when Buckeyes are safe and healthy, we can focus on our endeavors and on improving lives.
