What's Happening
A new seawall is being constructed along Indian Creek Drive between 41 and 29 streets.
The following activities are scheduled along the Indian Creek Drive:
- Forming seawall cap at 32 Street, then moving north to additional locations near 35, 37 and 41 streets.
- Receiving material to site.
One southbound lane along Indian Creek Drive may be closed as needed during the work. The bicycle lane may also be closed as needed during this time. Bicyclists may use the southbound travel lane.
This schedule may change due to unforeseen conditions or weather.
Project Overview and Benefits
The City of Miami Beach is surrounded by 55 miles of seawall. Of that space, only 5 miles of seawall is publicly owned. Efforts to raise and replace sections of seawalls are steps toward achieving a more resilient waterfront for our city as a whole. Seawalls at higher elevations will help mitigate the bigger picture effects of tidal flooding and rising sea levels.
Timeline
This project phase is expected to be complete by the spring of 2023.
Construction work hours are weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended time is subject to city approval and community notification. This schedule may change due to weather events or unforeseen circumstances.
What to Expect
This schedule may change due to unforeseen conditions or weather.
- Moderate levels of noise are expected during construction.
- Heavy equipment, machinery and workers will be present on the job site.
- The work zone is expected to be accessed from the creek and land side of the seawall for these efforts.
