Indian Creek Drive Flooding Mitigation Project

Notice Date: March 24, 2023

What's Happening

A new seawall is being constructed along Indian Creek Drive between 41 and 29 streets. The contractor commenced construction starting near 41 Street and is working south.

Beginning Monday, March 27, work is expected to start along Indian Creek Drive between 27 and 26 streets. The work includes closing Indian Creek Drive in this area and placing a crane in the middle of the road to construct a new section of seawall. A detour will be established to guide southbound Indian Creek Drive motorists around the work. Drivers will have to:

  • Turn east on 27 Street
  • Turn south on Collins Avenue
  • Continue south on Indian Creek Drive

One northbound and one southbound lane will be open on Collins Avenue only between 27 and 26 streets. This work is anticipated to last about two months. Access and garbage pickup to the buildings on Indian Creek Drive between 27 and 26 streets will be maintained from Collins Avenue. Please use caution while driving through this area.

This schedule may change due to unforeseen conditions or weather.

Project Overview and Benefits

The City of Miami Beach is surrounded by 55 miles of seawall. Of that space, only 5 miles of seawall is publicly owned. Efforts to raise and replace sections of seawalls are steps toward achieving a more resilient waterfront for our city as a whole. Seawalls at higher elevations will help mitigate the bigger picture effects of tidal flooding and rising sea levels.

Timeline

This project phase is expected to be complete by the spring of 2023.

Construction work hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Extended time is subject to city approval and community notification. This schedule may change due to weather events or unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

This schedule may change due to unforeseen conditions or weather.

  • Moderate levels of noise are expected during construction.
  • Heavy equipment, machinery and workers will be present on the job site.
  • The work zone is expected to be accessed from the creek and land side of the seawall for these efforts.
