Matching Grant Opportunity Available for Literacy Programming
Reading Is Fundamental is a non-profit focused on children's literacy. RIF believes that by providing children in need with access to books of their choosing, youth are empowered to embrace the world of reading and to develop a love of learning. The Indy Eleven Foundation grants are available to Indiana organizations, schools and communities across Indiana. Organizations that provide soccer-related sports or recreational opportunities to the youth within their communities are eligible for these grants. The purpose of Indy Eleven Foundation is to make the game of soccer a possibility for youth across Indiana who may not have otherwise been given the chance due to lack of resources. Approved applicants will have the opportunity to receive a grant up to $10,000 to support their efforts.

Indiana Sports Corp Susan Williams CHAMPS Grants support organizations that provide underserved youth with the opportunity to participate in sports and fitness activities and teach life skills. Since the inception of the CHAMPS (Champions in Life) Grant program in 1988, nearly $2.1 million have been allocated to 233 youth organizations to support their sports programming and initiatives. 2017 Community Schools Awards for Excellence showcase the great work you and your partners are doing in your school and community to ensure every child has every chance to succeed.
The Individual Community Schools Awards will go to schools that have been operating as community schools for at least three years and have demonstrated success. ($2,500 award)
The Community Schools Initiative Awards will go to initiatives with joint efforts between schools and community stakeholders that have organized multiple community school sites with a strong commitment to scaling up across the community or school systems. ($5,000 award)

Indiana STEM Education Conference
Purdue University January 12, 2017
Astronaut Col. Buzz Aldrin will be a special guest speaker. The Purdue University College of Education and Center for Advancing the Teaching and Learning of STEM (CATALYST), the Indiana Department of Education, and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education are proud sponsors of the conference. Indiana has increased momentum in K-12 STEM education over the past few years and this event is designed to capitalize on the knowledge and experiences that have been generated to continue moving Indiana forward. The goal of the conference is to provide a platform for dissemination of best practice in K-12 STEM teaching and learning in Indiana. There will be three strands that organize the conference: K-12 STEM practice, STEM education research, and STEM resources.

Computer Science in OST--Challenges & Opportunities Report
A diverse group of stakeholders-including educators, business and industry, policy makers, and parents-agree that computer science education is vital for kids to become the creators and innovators for the next generation, making technology work for them and designing solutions for their communities.
Afterschool Alliance asked the OST field what they thought about computer science education-and responses showed overwhelming interest! Almost 60 percent of respondents currently offer computer science to their students, or had offered it in the past. Despite this strong interest, OST providers indicated some big challenges to offering computer science to their students, especially finding qualified educators to teach it, securing funding, and accessing necessary technology. Registration Now Open for National STEM Competition!
The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) recently announced that registration is open for the fifth annual GAMA/Build A Plane Aviation Design Challenge, a competition to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) skills among U.S. high school students using aviation.
High schools or afterschool programs that register for the Aviation Design Challenge will receive FREE Fly to Learn curriculum and software powered by X-Plane to learn aerodynamic and aviation principles. Using that knowledge, teams will then compete in a virtual fly-off. Judges from GAMA will select the winning team based on a score from the virtual fly-off and other factors. The winning team will receive an all-expenses-paid for four students, a teacher, and a chaperone to experience general aviation manufacturing firsthand next summer. World of 7 Billion Student Video Contest
This year's challenge:
Students will create a short video (up to 60 seconds) about human population growth that highlights one of the following global challenges: Climate Change, Ocean Health, Rapid Urbanization.
The contest is open to all high school and middle school students (6th -12th grade) worldwide and the deadline for submissions is February 23, 2017. More info HERE.

With the launch of The Connectory, it's easier than ever for kids to connect with STEM programs and opportunities, and for STEM practitioners to collaborate, develop partnerships, and share resources. This free online collaboration tool gives STEM program providers a chance to find partners based on interests as well as a platform to showcase STEM opportunities to families. Families, in turn, have a free, go-to resource to connect the children in their lives to STEM learning opportunities in their community.

The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship is now available to students who commit to teaching in Indiana
Beginning Nov. 1, both incoming and current college students studying education can apply for the scholarship, which awards $7,500 per year toward college costs to those who commit to teaching in Indiana's public or private schools for five years after graduating.

FAFSA Opening Date
The 2017-2018 FAFSA opened on October 1! In addition to giving students an additional three months to file, the 2017-2018 FAFSA requires 2015 tax information only - removing the need for applicants to rush to file their taxes to meet the March 10 FAFSA deadline. Please encourage your seniors to file early! Remember that resources are available on the FAFSA website in their Financial Aid Tool Kit.
Scholar Success Program (SSP)
Beginning with the Class of 2017, Scholars are required to complete the Scholar Success Program (SSP) activities each year in order to maintain scholarship eligibility. Scholars must log in to ScholarTrack to track their progress. Enrolled Scholars must first register for a ScholarTrack account before they are able to access their ScholarTrack portal. To check the progress of Scholars at your school, select the Scholar Data tab on our website to track and monitor progress

Belt Abouts is a one lesson program (approximately 45 mins) designed to engage youth ages 8 to 12 years in age, in creating healthy safety messages and increase the number of kids riding in the car properly. The lesson is designed to deliver information via a newsletter, modeled from the Scholastic newsletter, which addresses three points to keep this age group safer by: riding in the back seat, always buckling-up, and using a booster seat if the seat belt doesn't fit the right way. Strategic Campaign Funds: (Open RFA grant opportunity) aim to fund strategic issue advocacy campaigns focused on fighting childhood obesity through state, local, and tribal public policy campaigns. The duration of these grants will vary but will generally be 1 year or less. Awards can be made up to $90,000. Applications must be specific to an individual campaign goaled to change public policy in one state, local, or tribal geographic location and must align with one of the six Voices for Healthy Kids policy priorities. Budgets must include one Campaign Coordinator position and a legal contingency of no less than 5% of the operating budget as well as matching funds on behalf of the applicant.
Rapid Response grant opportunities: aim to fund short-term, reactive projects expected to be pushing policies for passage in the next three to six months and must align with one of the six Voices for Healthy Kids policy priorities. These grants provide strategic and supplemental funding for ongoing state, local, and tribal public policy issue campaigns in order to increase public policy impact in the fight against childhood obesity. Rapid Response awards range from $15,000 to $100,000 and project duration is anywhere between two weeks to six months. Funding is for non-lobbying activities only, must include a legal contingency of no less that 5%, and cannot be used for staff salaries.
