The Afterschool Guide to Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
The National Afterschool Association (NAA) has compiled a variety of resources to help afterschool professionals better understand SEL. This guide provides information about the benefits of SEL, strategies to integrate SEL practices into your programming, and examples of successful programs built around SEL. Join the celebration by bringing Thank a Youth Worker Day to your area. Find tools to host an event, and consider taking a moment to call, write, or personally give a word of thanks to youth workers you know who are such invaluable assets to our society.

How Cities Used Data to Strengthen Their Afterschool Programs
A new report from the Wallace Foundation examines eight cities' efforts to strengthen their afterschool programs by garnering reliable information for decision making and advocacy. The report offers insights about lessons learned, including having shared goals and staying focused on outcomes. AFTERSCHOOL FUNDING
Empatico Spark Empathy Grants
Empatico, incubated by The KIND Foundation, is a free tool for educators of students ages 6-11 to connect their classrooms and groups with peers around the world. Spark Empathy Grants are now available to programs that use Empatico. Grant amounts range depending on the number of educators participating in this initiative. Learn more here

Free Books From First Book
Get more books into the hands of your students! Through May 15, First Book seeks applications for the OMG Books Awards: Offering More Great Books to Spark Innovation program. Awardees will be able to select the books that will help them best meet the needs of the children they serve through the First Book Marketplace. Then OMG Books will provide 1.5 million new books for distribution to children living in low-income communities. Deadline: May 15 and Aug. 15. Deadlines vary by state. Learn more here.

School Safe Haven Program
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 School Safe Haven Program. Indiana's School Safe Haven program provides matching grants that may be awarded to public school corporations and public charter schools to improve and/or increase school safety, resources, and programming. Deadline: May 24, 2019. More info here.

Give Back Scholarship
The law office of Doehrman Buba is accepting applications for the 2019 Give Back Scholarship. The scholarship is geared toward students who spend time volunteering and go above and beyond for their community. The scholarship is $3,000 ($2,500 will go toward the student's tuition and $500 will go to a non-profit organization where the student volunteered their time). The application deadline is May 31. The Clif Bar Family Foundation
The Clif Bar Family Foundation seeks to provide small grants for non-profit organizations, including afterschool programs that work on environmental stewardship, youth outdoor physical activity, and service to the community. These grants are awarded for general organizational support as well as funding for specific projects. The next deadline for applications is June 1. Learn more here.

Grants for Automotive Repair Programs
The RPM Foundation supports programs committed to hands-on education and teaching young people the specialized skills and knowledge needed to maintain cars, motorcycles, and boats.

Professional Development Grants from IYI
IYI offers professional development grants of up to $750 to help youth-serving professionals pay for the registration cost and hotel or travel costs associated with a professional development opportunity. Submit an application by the tenth of the month to receive a decision by the first of the following month. More  here.

The Next Level Jobs Workforce Ready Grant provides free job training for Hoosiers in high-demand sectors from Ivy Tech Community College or Vincennes University. Sectors include: Advanced Manufacturing, Building & Construction, Health & Life Science, IT & Business Services and Transportation & Logistics. This is a great opportunity for all students, especially those who may not qualify for other forms of financial aid. Learn more here

From April to July, Learn More Indiana's Career Ready is here to help students and families learn about careers in Indiana and find the right path for them. Resources include school announcements, career day resources and classroom activities for students of all ages. Learn more here

21st Century Scholars Enrollment
The 21st Century Scholar application for the 2018-2019 school year is open. The program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school, dependent upon financial need. More info HERE.

INvestEd is a team of experts who travel the entire state of Indiana sharing resources and information about the college planning and financial aid process. They provide FREE help that includes group presentations at schools, meeting with families, and useful resources on their website. Connecting with them is easy! Indiana Department of Education Office of College and Career Readiness 
This site will provide you with helpful information regarding the new Indiana Academic Standards, as well as information about content subject areas, Career and Technical Education, STEM and eLearning. Playworks

Playworks, in collaboration with Community Outreach and Engagement at Indiana University Health, will offer two opportunities for staff from Marion County summer youth programs to participate in Playworks' Power of Play (morning) and Group Management (afternoon) trainings. The session is offered from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on May 29 at Wheeler-Dowe Boys & Girls Club or from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on June 7 at New Augusta North Middle School. Emotional CPR (eCPR)
June 11-12, July 16-17, Sept. 17-18 | Indianapolis, IN
This two-day, public health education program is designed to teach people to assist others through an emotional crisis. Emotional CPR is based on the principles shared by a number of support approaches: trauma-informed care, recovery components, instilling hope, counseling after disasters, peer support, and cultural and social attunement. There is a $15 fee to participate. This is a two-day training at MCCOY's office (1375 W. 16th St.), and both days are required for course completion. Learn more and register here.

Building Your Bounce Professional Development

This two part train-the-trainer webinar experience provides participants with a copy of the Building Your Bounce Professional Development Learning Series, a three-part digital training tool that includes recorded videos that cover topics including, "Examining Our Own Risk and Protective Factors," "What Resilience Means to Me," and "Introduction to the Devereux Adult Resilience Survey - 23 Questions That Can Change the Way You Look at Life." The Second Annual Teach to Lead Summit

COPE Training

The Indiana Pathways Summit

Hosted by the Education Workforce Innovation Network (EWIN), the Indiana Pathways Summit promises an engaging, interactive day that will help participants prepare for upcoming changes in the state's education and workforce landscape. Panel discussions and breakout sessions will showcase regional innovations that include employer, K-12, and postsecondary education, and community organization partnerships. Careers in Sports Event and College Fair

The Careers in Sports event is a joint effort between MCCOY and the Indiana Fever to encourage youth opportunities. Attendees can watch part of an Indiana Fever practice session and hear inspiring messages and helpful tips from a variety of professionals in the sporting world. There is no fee for this event, and there is no limit to the number of youth you can bring. FBI Youth Leadership Academy
July 8-10, 2019 | Indiana University's Bradford Woods
This summer, the Indianapolis Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will host the FBI Youth Leadership Academy (YLA). Through interactive physical challenges and classroom discussions, the YLA is designed to promote an educational experience that will provide students with valuable leadership training and a greater understanding of the FBI. Applicants should:
  • Have completed their junior year of high school
  • Have a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Commit to attending the entire program
  • Write an essay of no more than 500 words depicting their interest in the program and how it will enhance their future plans

Peace Learning Center - Restorative Justice Training

This one-year professional development and leadership training program offers a collaborative process of study, conversation, and engagement within a community of OST professionals in a shared investigation of OST practice, policy, and experiences. Handbook of Help
The Handbook of Help is a listing of services available to individuals in Indianapolis who may be homeless or at risk of homelessness. CHIP annually verifies and updates information in the Handbook of Help. Each year, CHIP distributes thousands of printed copies in the community. Learn more here.

Indy Arts Education
Indianapolis-area educators now have 24/7 access to all local arts & cultural resources through one single website. Developed through a partnership between Indianapolis Public Schools and the local arts community, IndyArtsEd.org is a resource for finding field trips, workshops, and fun, engaging activities for all students (PreK - 12). Brighter Futures Indiana
Early Learning Indiana and FSSA have partnered with BrighterFuturesIndiana.org, an interactive family resource site.  This online hub helps families find high-quality child care, information on child development, ideas for supporting learning at home, and information about statewide services for Indiana families. The information is rooted in evidence-based practice and presents useful tips for putting research to practice as children grow. Learn more here

The Homework Hotline 
Started in 1991 as a toll-free telephone service, the Homework Hotline iPhone app gives students easier access to Rose-Hulman students that are available as hotline tutors from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday during the school year. Supported by the Lilly Endowment, Inc., the Homework Hotline provides toll-free math and science tutoring services by calling 1-877-ASK-ROSE (1-877-275-7673) or through the  website.

2-1-1 is State-Wide in Indiana!   All 92 counties with all 6,483,802 Hoosiers now have access to the free 24/7/365 service that helps people find the help they need to obtain safe, affordable housing, food and utilities, mental and physical health care, employment, volunteer opportunities and many other things that can lead to happier, healthier, safer individuals and families in our communities. The foundation is accepting applications for its Youth Literacy Grants program. Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations in support of efforts to help students who are reading below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading, including those with individualized education plans (IEPs). The Festival Fund 
Established in 2011 to support and promote the activities of organizations in the greater Indianapolis area that enrich cultural life by celebrating cultural expression and encourage understanding and appreciation for different cultures. Qualifying community organizations may apply to receive funding to support their international or cultural event in grant awards ranging from $500-$2,000. Project Learning Tree 
Accepting applications from schools and nonprofit organizations for environmental service-learning projects through its GreenWorks! grants program, which is designed to help students make their schools greener and healthier by, for example, implementing a recycling program, conserving water and energy, improving air quality, or establishing a school garden or outdoor classrooms and integrating these projects into the curriculum.

Grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to support environmental projects that demonstrate service-learning, exemplify student voice, and involve at least one community partner. To be eligible, projects must secure at least 50 percent in matching funds (in-kind acceptable). Learn more  here.

Good Sports helps lay the foundation for healthy, active lifestyles by providing athletic equipment, footwear, and apparel to disadvantaged young people nationwide. The NEA Foundation is inviting applications for its Learning and Leadership Grants program. The program provides support to public education professionals to fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences. To be eligible, applicants must be a public school educator in grades Pre-K-12; a public school education support professional; or faculty and staff members at a public institution of higher education. Preference will be given to members of the National Education Association. The grant amount is $2,000 for individuals and $5,000 for groups engaged in collegial study.
