LAST CALL! Nominations for 2021 River Friendly Farmer Award accepted through June 10
Indiana SWCDs have until June 10 to submit a nomination to IASWCD. Watershed organizations also may nominate farmers for the award by submitting an application to a county SWCD. Visit the IASWCD website for more information. 
NACD Technical Assistance Grant Submission for Indiana Soil & Water Conservation Districts
The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) has opened their Technical Assistance (TA) Grants Request for Proposals (RFP), with a due date of June 6. Part of the NACD TA Grant process is working with state associations, state NRCS and state departments of agriculture to prioritize projects in their state. In previous years, IASWCD has worked with NRCS and ISDA to look at high work load areas and prioritize applications where needed. This year we are establishing a new process that will open up the NACD TA Grants to more districts.

Pathway to Water Quality Volunteer Sign-Up begins June 1
The Indiana State Fair takes place July 30-August 22 (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). You can volunteer with fellow ICP partners to serve at the Pathway to Water Quality. Sign up begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1.

NACD Announces 2022 Stewardship and Education Theme
The NACD Stewardship and Education Committee is excited to announce the 2022 Poster Contest and Stewardship Week theme: “Healthy Soils: Healthy Life.” Healthy soils are the foundation for all life on Earth. Soil is an important resource for everything from human health to agriculture to water filtration.
The 67th Annual Stewardship Week will take place from April 22-May 1, 2022.
30x30 Initiative: Member Feedback
On January 27, 2021, President Biden signed Executive Order (EO) 14008, Tacking the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad. EO 14008 calls for the conservation of at least 30 percent of America’s lands and waters by 2030 and is referred to as the 30×30 program. The NACD policy team is interested in learning more about how members view the 30x30 initiative, and what specific feedback you have. They will use this information as they continue to engage with the new administration. Please take a moment to fill out a few questions below.
Submit Your Ideas: NACD 2022 Annual Meeting Theme
NACD's 76th Annual Meeting is scheduled to be held Feb. 12-16, 2022 in Orlando, Fla. Help them come up with a theme that celebrates conservation in the Sunshine State! The winning submission will earn a complimentary full registration to the 2022 Annual Meeting.
NACD Summer Meeting July 24-27
The 2021 NACD Summer Meeting and 75th Anniversary Celebration, is scheduled to be held July 24-27 in Chicago, IL. The agenda includes a full NACD board meeting, a 75h Anniversary Celebration event and a conservation forum full of regional and national leaders in conservation. NACD's Summer Meeting will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago - Magnificent Mile.

Fall Conference Registration Now Open!
The IDEA Fall Conference will take place over one full and two half-days in early October. This conference provides an opportunity for Indiana's SWCD staff across the state to learn, be encouraged, refresh, share, network and gather valuable information to take back to their district office. Highlights include a Keynote Speaker (Peter Heck), Breakout Sessions, Time to Network, and a time to build community.

State’s Department of Agriculture Selects New Division of Soil Conservation Director
INDIANAPOLIS (May 12, 2021) — The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) has selected Trevor Laureys as the Division of Soil Conservation director. Laureys has been with the department since 2015 and previously held the role of GIS and Data Analysis director within the Division of Soil Conservation. “I am proud to know that the next director of soil conservation for Indiana will be someone with vast agricultural and conservation knowledge,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development. “Trevor has been a great public employee for many years, and I am excited to see his commitment to Indiana and conservation grow.”

Attend one of the Clean Water Indiana (CWI) Networking sessions to learn more about the 2022 Grants. June 2, 16 and 22. Information is for SWCDS and Non-SWCDS interested in applying for a CWI Grant.

Indiana SARE Professional Development mini-grants of 2021-2022 are targeted toward historically underserved and beginning farmers. Purdue Extension is hosting three separate SARE mini grant workshops on June 1, 2 and 3 (6:00-7:00 pm ET). Choose one of three dates to attend via Zoom. Presentation will include tips on writing a grant and other SARE grant opportunities.

SWCS Announces Headliners for 76th International Annual Conference
The Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) 76th International Annual Conference, to be held virtually July 26-28, 2021, will bring the latest industry research, tools and technical information, from far and wide, right into the offices and homes of attendees. Registration is open through July 16, 2021.
Forest Service GLRI Request for Applications
The USDA Forest Service is now requesting applications for the Fiscal Year 2021 Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Grant Program. They anticipate that up to $5.4 million in new funds will be available for reforestation, ecosystem restoration and forest health improvement in the Great Lakes Basin.

Register or Find Events during NPD Week
If you have nature based events scheduled during NPD week, register as a Nature Play Day campaign! Your NPD efforts can be formal events, making resources available to families, or as simple as a Nature Play Day branded online campaign to encourage kids to get outside. When you register your NPD campaign, you can share your website or social media info where attendees can get up to date information on your NPD offerings between June 5th and 13th. 
Nominations Open for 2021 Charles Deam Forest Stewardship Award
In appreciation of Charles Deam’s contribution toward many of the forestry programs and information that we now enjoy, the Indiana Forestry & Woodland Owners Association sponsors the Charles Deam Forest Stewardship Award contest which seeks annually to find the forest landowners who are demonstrating exceptional management of their forest resources. Online submission available (and preferred) this year. Deadline for applications is June 15.
