Newsletter November 20, 2025
Engage - Act - Effect Change
| | | | Please note: there will be no newsletter next week, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving surrounded by friends and family. We are grateful for community, hope, and you. Thank you for your continued support and activism. | | |
Dear All,
As we head into Thanksgiving week, we want to acknowledge something that we all feel: gratitude for each other. This year has tested Americans in ways that would have been unthinkable a decade (or even a year) ago. We've watched democratic norms erode, rights narrow, and decision-makers make choices that harm the many in order to please the few.
And through it all, ordinary people have refused to give up or look away.
I'm grateful for every person who showed up at a No Kings rally, who made a phone call, who wrote a postcard or an email or a comment on a news article, who had a tough conversation with a friend or neighbor, and who still believes that our democracy is worth fighting for.
At a moment when political leaders have let us down, it's the people who continue to hold the line.
The holiday week is often about rest--but it's also about recommitment. Thanksgiving isn't passive; it's a reminder of who and what we're working to protect.
Read on for events and other ways to show your commitment over the next few weeks:

"What comes after No Kings? Five things we can do for democracy"
Speaker: Danielle Allen
When: December 8, 2025
Where: Winchester Public Library, Large Meeting Room, 80 Washington St, Winchester
Time: 6p-7p
Danielle Allen, convening chair of the Coalition for Healthy Democracy and author of Justice by Means of Democracy, presents her ideas on policy innovations needed for a healthy democracy. We're called to envision what we want our democracy to look like, how we want it to function, and who we want it to support—what Danielle calls “renovating” democracy.
About Our Speaker: Danielle Allen is a seasoned leader, public policy and public affairs professor, author, democracy advocate, and mom. Whether in her research lab or as a civic leader, Danielle works on democracy renovation: a new way of thinking about and investing to strengthen our country. Democracy renovation reconnects people to civic life and redesigns our political institutions and civic infrastructure so people have the tools they need to be responsible and effective citizens— and politicians have the incentives they need to deliver responsive and accountable representation.
Admission is free, but space is limited, so please RSVP
| | Thanksgiving through Dec 1st | | |
Thanksgiving is traditionally the beginning of the holiday shopping season. This year, we are focusing on a targeted economic action: intentionally pausing purchases from three specific companies to apply strategic economic pressure.
-
Target, for caving to this administration’s biased attacks on DEI
-
Home Depot, for allowing and colluding with ICE to kidnap our neighbors on their properties
-
Amazon, for funding this administration to secure their own corporate tax cuts.
This Thanksgiving, choose freedom over shopping. Family over corporations. We encourage you to support Black, Immigrant and POC-owned businesses, small and local shops, retailers that have stood firm for democracy and inclusion.

Volunteer Ventures MA, a Lexington-based nonprofit, hosted a Soup Jar Making event on Sunday November 9 at Temple Shir Tikvah in Winchester. In 2 hours, volunteers assembled 480 jars of dry ingredients for soup that will have a shelf-life of about 1 year. They have been distributed to a number of food banks, including The EnKa Pantry. There were roughly 90 volunteers total, from Winchester and beyond.

Weekly standout Saturday mornings in front of the Tesla dealership in Watertown. While the protests have grown smaller since Musk left D.C., they still take place every weekend at showrooms all over the country. Many activists, including IndivisibleWIN members, have joined a new push to get unions, as well as municipal and state governments, to divest pension funds from Tesla.

...perhaps you will be sharing [Thanksgiving] with family and friends who have different political opinions than you.
Sometimes if I’m speaking with someone whose politics are quite different from mine, I sort of open up the conversation by saying help me understand what I am not seeing here, and the conversation goes a bit deeper."
~ Gloria Legvold IndivisibleWIN member

During this holiday time, take time with family and time to rest--and then come back ready. Our work continues: more rallies, more organizing, more conversations that shift hearts and minds. Democracy doesn’t sustain itself; people do.
Enjoy the holiday, hug your people, and know that we’ll be back the following week with actions, updates, and ways to stay engaged.
