Indoctrination Task Force Members Review
District Curricular Materials
Boise, ID -- 06/22/2021 -- Earlier today, Rep. Priscilla Giddings (R-White Bird, ID), along with Anna Miller, Mike Nelson, Lorna Mitson, and Ryan Spoon, were provided with the opportunity to review Boise School District curricular materials. Rep. Giddings, co-chair of Lieutenant Governor Janice McGeachin’s Indoctrination Task Force, requested the materials through a public records request in early June. According to reporting by Idaho Ed News, Anna Miller, Mike Nelson, and Ryan Spoon are also members of the Indoctrination Task Force.

The materials included Teachers’ Guides from National Geographic’s REACH & Pathways English Learning Programs. The curriculum is taught at five elementary schools, one junior high school, and three high schools in the Boise School District and is included in the Idaho Department of Education’s K-12 English Learner Adoption Guide.

Rep. Giddings’ request targeted both curriculum and classroom lessons related to the District’s English Learners program, as well as AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a national, highly successful opt-in, elective college and career readiness program. Both programs serve some of the District’s most socioeconomically challenged students, including recently arrived refugees.

“We have complied with Rep. Giddings’ public record request, and consider the matter concluded,” said Coby Dennis, Boise School District Superintendent. “We are excited to move forward and continue providing all students with access to a comprehensive, high-quality education.”
