Overture to 2023 will encourage community reflection on both Gloucester’s first 400+ years and the century ahead. It will be serious, stimulating, elevating and, at the same time, entertaining.

The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation celebrates the 2023 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a free event Monday, January 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the at the corner of Middle and Church Streets.


The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation hosts cartoonist, rapper, social activist, author, and educator, Keith Knight, creator of The Knight Life, K Chronicles, (Th)ink, and co-creator of the television series Woke. Through his art, Knight raises topics of race and identity with edge and humor to foster civic dialogue and raise awareness of racial illiteracy. His work is published worldwide and features Knight’s candid take on current events as they relate to race relations in the United States. Learn More

Reading the Forested Landscape: Interactive Photo Analysis with Tom Wessels

Noted naturalist Tom Wessels, author of Reading the Forested Landscape and a number of other ecological field guides, will interpret participants’ photos of the local landscape during this hour-long Zoom presentation. Linking together clues we see in the shape of the land, signs of fire damage, distribution and types of plants, and man-made features like stone walls, we can learn to decipher how land has been changed and shaped for countless centuries by people and by nature. 2nd Annual Gloucester's So Salty

Celebrate the fish city’s recognizably salty character with local cultural institutions and businesses during the 2nd Annual Gloucester’s So Salty festival on January 21 and 22, 2023 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm! Over 800 people came out last year to share their salty pride while enjoying free ice sculptures and cultural activities around Downtown Gloucester. The Cape Ann Museum is partnering with several area cultural institutions and businesses to offer two full days of free programming in the coldest part of the year. Inspired by the annual Salem’s So Sweet event, this two-day event will include ice sculptures, live music, salty treats, free kids’ art activities, and much more.

Join Backyard Growers to learn to prep your garden tools for spring and help them last for many growing seasons to come. In this workshop, attendees will learn to prolong the life of their garden tools and get the most out of them. We'll teach sharpening methods, the use of lubrication and mineral oil, proper storage conditions, and more.
