Dear Covenant Family,

I’m writing to outline the protocols and procedures that the Session and Deacons have approved for moving back into our building for worship, and for use by our various ministries.

First, let me thank you for keeping us in your prayers as we worked through guidelines, statistics, etc. to create these protocols and guidelines. This was not an easy task, as I’m sure you can appreciate. Second, I’d like to thank our Safety Team for their research and input, helping to give recommendations to the Session and Deacons. Finally, we realize that there are many different ways people are processing our current circumstances. Some may find these protocols and guidelines too restrictive, while others may feel they aren’t restrictive enough, and still others may be somewhere in the middle. I would ask that we all remember Paul’s admonition to us in Colossians 3:12-15:

“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”

Our first Sunday to worship indoors will be October 11. We will have two services, 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and we will continue to offer the service online as well. If the weather permits, we will conduct the 11 a.m. service outside at the pavilion. This decision will be made on Saturdays, and an email will be sent to let everyone know whether the 11 a.m. service is inside or outside.

The following are protocols and guidelines beginning October 11.

Personal/Household Protocols
  • Due to limited seating, room size, etc. we ask that everyone register for the service you would like to attend. Reservations will open the preceding Monday online. Details on registration will be sent the week prior to October 11.
  • Prior to coming to worship, everyone should take their own temperatures at home. Any temperature that you know to be high for you (especially above 100.4 F) or anyone in the house, the household should stay home that week. Also, any symptoms of illness (even without fever) would mean the household should stay home.
  • While in the building, everyone is asked to wear masks. Exceptions would be for those with health conditions and children age 2 and under.
  • Please practice social distancing (at least 6 feet apart) while in the building. Households should sit together.
  • Childcare for infants and toddlers will not reopen at this time. But the multi-purpose room will be available for parents to exit the service and care of their own children, while being able to watch and hear the service via close circuit TV.
  • In accordance with masks being worn in the building, fellowship before and after worship should include masks. As weather permits, moving times of fellowship outside is encouraged.

Building Protocols
  • The music team will have screens in front of those leading to block droplets while they’re not wearing masks.
  • We will provide as much fresh air movement – open windows, emergency exit doors, etc. – as possible during services.
  • We will be cleaning high touch objects (doorknobs, restroom faucets, etc.) before and after each service. Doors will be propped open (as we’re able) to diminish the need to touch them.
  • Contact Tracing: reservation system will allow for this as needed. We will also encourage voluntary text check-in for walk-in guests.

Protocols for Church Ministries
  • Prior to coming to ministry or event, everyone should take their own temperatures at home.
  • Childcare for infants and toddlers may be offered following Covenant Community guidelines (based on CDC recommendations) for childcare. It is the responsibility of each ministry to adhere to these guidelines.
  • Provide as much fresh air movement as possible – open windows, emergency exit doors, etc.
  • Cleaning: Doorknobs, restroom faucets, etc. should be cleaned before and after meeting. Prop open doors (as able), to diminish the need to touch them.
  • Contact Tracing: attendance must be taken for all ministry meetings/events.

We understand that these protocols are not ideal, but we believe they provide the best path forward for us to continue to gather and worship together. Let us remember “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” As one body, may the peace of Christ rule in us, may the bonds of love produce perfect harmony, and may we be thankful for this covenant community, this place of worship, and the ability to come together as one body.

On behalf of the Session and Deacons,

Pastor Jon

Pastor Jon
