The Fund saw its largest investment last year, when Act 74 deployed $25 million in funding to characterize and cleanup brownfield sites across the state.
SERVICE SPOTLIGHT: Testing New Tools For PCB Extraction
PCB extraction in concrete slabs currently involves cutting and removing contaminated materials. Read a description of how Stone assessed the degree and extent of PCB contamination at a 20,000 square-foot building in Springfield, Vermont.
Stone will conduct a pilot test to evaluate the efficacy of removing PCBs from the concrete slab of a former manufacturing facility in Springfield, Vermont using the solvent extractant, CAPSUR®. This aqueous-based solvent system is developed for the extraction of PCBs in solid surfaces including wood, metal, asphalt, and concrete. If successful, this new method may drastically reduce remediation costs compared to demolishing and disposing building material.
