2025 Assessment Information Request Program

MPAC requests up-to-date and detailed property information from owners and their representatives as part of the Assessment Information Request Program. This information helps MPAC maintain accurate property records, deliver quality assessments, and capture changes to Ontario’s property landscape. Property owners play an important role and are required to provide the information requested by MPAC under section 11 of the Ontario Assessment Act

Property Income and Expense Return campaign is underway!

Our largest assessment information request campaign is the Property Income and Expense Return. This annual initiative requests data from over 35,000 income-generating properties, including retail stores, hotels, motels, multi-residential buildings, golf courses, offices, and industrial malls.

MPAC’s income valuation experts carefully review the information provided by property owners to regularly monitor trends in revenue, expenses, capital investments, fair market rents, vacancies and other factors, while also maintaining accurate property inventories.

“Property owners have an important role in this process,” says Shelley Graham, Director of Valuation, Research & Advisory Services – Income. “In addition to compliance being a requirement under the Ontario Assessment Act, having complete, accurate and current market and property data is vital to our valuation process and supports us in establishing quality assessments.”

The Property Income and Expense Return campaign covers the following property types:

  • Commercial/Industrial
  • Office
  • Golf Courses
  • Hotels
  • Motels
  • Land Lease & Mobile Homes
  • Large Resorts
  • Long-term Care Facilities
  • Mixed Use Properties
  • Multi-Residential
  • Retirement Homes
  • Retail

Request letters were mailed for eligible properties, in May 2025, detailing the information needed, including the submission deadline of July 14, 2025, and the methods available for submitting information.

We are closely monitoring the ongoing Canada Post labour negotiations, which may impact incoming and outgoing mail. Should a labour disruption occur, information to support property owners will be shared on mpac.ca.

Assessment information request enhancements through AboutMyProperty

For most property types, the preferred method to submit information is through MPAC’s secure web portal, AboutMyProperty, available from mpac.ca, and this year we’ve made it easier than ever. Recent enhancements to the information request portal offer:

  • Streamlined navigation: A smoother experience with a user-friendly interface.
  • Pre-population: Option to auto-populate your 2024 submission (where available), saving you time and effort.
  • New summary tab: High-level overview of data inputs before submitting.
  • View and print: Access to view and print previous submissions for added convenience.

We are interested in hearing from property owners about these enhancements and their experience submitting their information. We encourage owners to complete our quick exit survey once they have completed their submission.

Information request letters have a new look

We’ve refreshed our information request letters. Based on your feedback, we've streamlined how property details, requested information, and submission instructions are displayed, so finding what you need is easier and faster than ever. If you own an income-producing property, your request letter was mailed in May 2025. The refreshed design clearly highlights AboutMyProperty login credentials and the steps to access the portal.

We’ve also added an information insert with each request letter, highlighting the enhancements to the information request portal in AboutMyProperty™ and outlining the important role property owners play in providing the requested information.

Available resources for property owners

Assessment information requests can be completed by a property owner, an employee of the property owner, a licensed lawyer or paralegal representing the property owner with authorization to access and submit property income and expense information for 2025 or an agent representing the property owner who has completed a 2025 Representative Authorization Form.

For property owners looking for additional insights and support, more information is available on mpac.ca. This includes frequently asked questions, a user guide, and more details about the request and submission process.

MPAC in motion

MPAC representatives attended a variety of events and conferences recently, where we had the opportunity to connect with attendees to learn what matters most to business property owners in Ontario.

Making connections at CHIC and PM Springfest

We recently met with property managers and owners of office, retail, commercial and multi-residential properties at PM Springfest, and hotel property owners at the Canadian Hotel Investment Conference (CHIC).

At the event, staff shared details about this year’s campaign and the exciting new changes to the online portal. The conference provided staff with a great opportunity to connect one-on-one with property owners and hear direct input on how we can improve their overall experience.

"I really enjoyed connecting with attendees at PM Springfest. Property owners and managers were excited about the enhanced information request portal in AboutMyProperty, and it was great to answer their questions about the program and how we safeguard their collected financial data and proprietary information.”

“It was great speaking with the MPAC team at CHIC. Learning that my 2024 information can be pre-populated with the ability to view past submissions is going to make this year’s submission much easier and less time-consuming.”
