Select Standing Committee on Finance & Government Services Releases Report on Budget 2023 Consultations
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia released the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services report on Budget 2023 consultations. The budgetary consultation process was created in the early 2000s and provides insight into the themes that emerge from the over 1000 submissions that the Committee receives and finds compelling.

The BCHA issued a submission, with key themes noted throughout the report surrounding government travel, MRDT, amendments to OTA taxation, and hotel asset development.
ABLE BC Important Update | BCGEU Strike FAQs
The BCGEU recently began strike action - as a result the LDB has temporarily shut down its distribution centres and Wholesale Customer Centre. This means that BC's liquor and cannabis businesses will not receive any products from the LDB until the strike action is over. As a reminder, the job action at distribution centres and the WCC will not impact ordering from BDL or local producers offering direct delivery. Both BDL and BC-based producers stand ready to accept your orders.

ABLE BC has released a comprehensive update with FAQs for members. See below for more info and to understand how this strike will impact alcohol suppliers.
Repairs Coming for Othello Section of Coquihalla
Following the devastation caused by the November 2021 storms, permanent repairs to the Othello section of the Coquihalla Highway 5 will begin soon, helping rebuild the highway to a more resilient standard. Construction is expected to start in early August and be complete this fall. Crews will reinstate approximately 460 metres of the southbound lanes that were washed out. All efforts will be made to minimize traffic disruptions during peak travel hours.

Additional Staff Housing on its Way for Whistler
Local officials have approved a long-awaited Whistler Blackcomb (WB) staff housing project slated for the base of Blackcomb Mountain at an August 2 council meeting. The six-storey, 66-unit apartment complex, dubbed Glacier 8, will be 100-per-cent employee-restricted and subject to rental rate stipulations. Officials approved the rezoning and subdivision of the site, located on Glacier Lane and nestled between parking lots 6 and 7. It would be WB's eighth employee housing apartment on Glacier Lane.

REMINDER | Province Seeks Input on Making National Day of Truth & Reconciliation a Provincial Stat Holiday
The Province is seeking input from B.C. employers and employees on whether the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) should be designated a provincial statutory holiday under the Employment Standards Act, starting in 2023.

Designating this day as a provincial statutory holiday would entitle B.C. employees covered by the Employment Standards Act to an employer-paid day off to personally commemorate the day, or to payment at premium rates if they are required to work on that day. Submit feedback by September 21, 2022.
