Update on Strike | Back to Bargaining Table
|
|
Since the BCGEU began targeted job action on Monday, August 15, British Columbia’s hospitality industry has been thrown into turmoil; this crisis was further exacerbated by the liquor rations introduced by government on Friday, August 19.
Hotel, restaurant, liquor store, and hospitality operators across the province have been unable to secure inventory, forcing many to reduce their operating hours or temporarily close because of this job action. The lack of inventory is also creating considerable reputation damage to businesses by placing hospitality businesses in the crosshairs of a dispute that has nothing to do with them.
Earlier this week, the BCHA submitted formal letters to Premier John Horgan and BCGEU President, Stephanie Smith, urging both parties to get back to the bargaining table. With mounting pressure from the public and partners across our sector, the BCGEU announced in a press release today that they have accepted the government's offer to return to the bargaining table. The union's current job action will remain in effect until further notice, at which point, we will share an update with our members.
TAKE ABLE BC SURVEY TO QUANTIFY IMPACT
We understand the harsh reality that our hospitality community is experiencing as a result of the dispute; we remind our members that your voice is critical in showing the public and government the true costs of the BCGEU strike. Please fill out this survey to help quantify its impact.
