BCHA & Industry Partners Urge Quick End to BCGEU Strike | Take Impact Survey
Despite the BC Government and the BCGEU being back at the bargaining table, the BCGEU strike needs to end now in order to avoid further destruction to our industry. Yesterday, the BCHA joined a coalition of BC liquor, hospitality, cannabis, and business associations in releasing a letter to both the BC Government and the BCGEU, demanding a quick end to the strike. The impacts felt by our industry have been immediate, with product shortages causing reduced hours, closures, and long-term reputation damage for a sector still in recovery from COVID-19.

We are also asking the BCGEU to pause strike action while negotiations are underway as an act of good faith. Our industry cannot afford for this strike to continue.
Webinar: How to Navigate Employee Layoffs | Resources from ABLE BC & go2HR
ABLE BC & go2HR have partnered to offer resources to assist our industry with the current BCGEU strike, including a webinar on How to Navigate Employee Layoffs as businesses once again struggle with having to temporarily close their businesses.

The webinar will take place: Wednesday, August 31, 2022 | 10:00 am to 11:00 am

Tipping Our Hat to Industry
"You are Stronger Than You Think" - Jenny Gomes

Congratulations to Jenny Gomes, Employee Experience Manager at Sun Peaks Resort for receiving her Master of Arts in Leadership from Royal Roads University! Jenny began her program with a 10 month old baby in tow, which she said made some question her ability to successfully complete the program as a new mom. She had this to say:

"Was it easy? Absolutely not. Were there sacrifices? There were many. But it was definitely worth it. Thank you to everyone who supported me during this journey and for being my cheerleaders. Never doubt your own abilities; you are stronger than you think; investing in yourself is okay - as a women we tend to shy away from this and only look out for others, the “mom guilt”. Be that example that you want your kids to strive for, they’re always watching you! And most importantly have FUN!"
