This week I had the pleasure of meeting with the Hotel Association of Whistler General Managers, in the gorgeous resort town of Whistler. It was cold, and clear and full of vacationing families skiing and having fun.

As we are planning our 2024 BCHA summit, and all the details of that conference, I stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, and reviewed the plans for the BCHA board meeting, conference and Awards of Excellence while I was there.

I’d like to take a moment and acknowledge the leadership and influence of the outgoing General Manager of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Norm Mastalir. Norm’s esteemed career has spanned many countries, we first met when I was Director of Rooms and Marketing ( innovative title ) at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, as Norm was the General Manager of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. It was 1993. So much has happened in our industry, our companies and our careers as hoteliers since then. Norm is known throughout the industry as a people person, a passionate leader, with an eye for detail and commitment to excellence when it comes to the guest experience. Norm, I will miss our visits, and wish you many ski days with powder snow and sunshine. You will be greatly missed.

The new General Manager of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler is Ken Hall, who goes back with Norm many years, and I understand has been a successful General Manager with the same commitment to the guest experience as Norm has. It was a pleasure to meet Ken personally, I am confident the leadership that Norm has shown to his communities and industry will be upheld by Ken. Ken comes to Fairmont Chateau Whistler most recently as the General Manager at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.

It is always a pleasure for me to present and engage in person with our hotel community, highlighting the key initiatives we have developed and our advocacy efforts. 2023 was a busy year, please join me for our webinar tomorrow with an eye to 2023 results, and a focus on what is in store for 2024.

Thank you for supporting our work on your behalf, we couldn’t do it without you. Register here.

Best Regards;

Ingrid
