ADVOCACY WIN! Expanding Pathways to Permanent Residency: Inclusion of Lower-Skilled Occupations and Hotel Workers
The Federal Pathway for Refugees under the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) has expanded to include lower-skilled occupations, including housekeepers. This program, which offers a direct pathway to permanent residency, was previously limited to high-skilled refugees and excluded many hotel workers. This pilot project, applicable to all sectors, has the potential to lead to permanent, wide-ranging reform. The BCHA already holds a strong partnership with Talent Beyond Boundaries, the government's designated placement agency, and secured 50 positions in the Spring, however, this partnership could facilitate access to over 5000 available positions for hoteliers. As a result of our dedicated advocacy efforts, this announcement directly addresses our recommendations and acknowledges the importance of tourism and hospitality. Stay tuned for more updates on this initiative.
