Celebrating National Indigenous
Peoples Day!
National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD) is a day recognizing and celebrating the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples in Canada. Today, we celebrate the many cultures, languages, and traditions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. We also recognize the significant contributions that Indigenous Peoples have made and continue to make across Turtle Island.

Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) have created a series of graphics to celebrate the day which you can access at the link below.
Reminder | TAKE SURVEY for BC 2030 Olympic Games Feasibility Study
In anticipation for potential planning of the 2030 BC Olympic Games, the Lil̓’wat7úl (Lil’wat), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations have entered into an egagement phase to learn how the games can be delivered to the benefit of British Columbians.

Destination BC | Research Roundup
Destination BC has released two new reports measuing resident perception and sentiment.

  • THIS REPORT summarizes the various research findings from Destination BC, suppliers, other tourism agencies and associations.
  • Key finding: 70% of BC residents' feel safe travelling to other Canadian provinces or territories

  • THIS REPORT is released every month to track BC Residents' tourism opinions and intentions, and watch how results trend over time
  • Key finding: 64% of BC residents are comfortable travelling via airplane for non-essential purposes, a historic high for the study.

Domestic Overnight Visitors Week Ending June 12 Highlights:
 
  • Average Domestic Overnight Visitation to BC for Week 23 (June 6 - June 12, 2022) is up 7.8% compared to the same week in 2019
  • When comparing Week 22 (May 30 - June 5, 2022) to Week 23 (June 6 - June 12, 2022) Thompson Okanagan, Vancouver Coast & Mountains, and Northern BC saw an increase in visitation. Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, Kootenay Rockies, and Vancouver Island saw a decrease
  • British Columbia increased 7.9% when comparing Week 22 (May 30 - June 5, 2022) to Week 23 (June 6 - June 12, 2022)
 
STR Report Highlights Week Ending June 11:
 
  • British Columbia had a 72.9% occupancy from Sunday-Thursday and a 82.8% occupancy during the weekend, down -5.1% compared to the same week in 2019.
  • British Columbia had an ADR of $226.16 from Sunday-Thursday and an ADR of $258.58 during the weekend, up 5.9% compared to the same week in 2019.
  • British Columbia had a RevPAR of $164.98 from Sunday-Thursday and a RevPAR of $214.19 during the weekend, up 0.6% compared to the same week in 2019.
 
Regional STATS the Weekend of June 10-11, 2022:
 
  • Cariboo Chilcotin Coast: OCC 70.6% ADR $152.89 REVPAR $107.89
  • Kootenay Rockies: OCC 65.3% ADR $160.87 REVPAR $105.08
  • Northern BC: OCC 66.5% ADR $127.33 REVPAR $84.70
  • Thompson Okanagan: OCC 84.0% ADR $196.33 REVPAR $164.97

Budget 2023 | Share Your Feedback
The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services has opened public consultations for Budget 2023.
 
The Committee has made some adjustments to the consultation process that are based on best practices observed from previous consultations and aim to make the process more efficient and accessible for all participants. This year, participants are asked to focus on three recommendations for the next provincial budget.
 
Opportunities to complete the submission form and the survey are open until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24th. Though the BCHA has already presented based on feedback from members, we encourage all members interested to share their insights below.
