BC Government Introduces Two
Pieces of Legislature
Two important pieces of legislation were tabled this week. The first is the Provincial Sales Tax Amendment Act, introduced by the Ministry of Finance which will intends to introduce a new Major Events Municipal and Regional District Tax (MRDT) of up to 2.5% on short-term accommodation. The second is the Workers Compensation Amendment Act, introduced by the Ministry of Labour which aims to provide benefits for injured workers.

Our hotel community, including the BCHA Board of Directors and the Hotel Association of Vancouver, have been working closely with the Province of BC and the City of Vancouver to understand specifics and the workability of the new MRDT legislature and will keep our members updated as details unfold. In addition, we are also working closely with the BC Business Council on amendments to the Workers Compensation Act and will provide further updates in the coming days.
Survey Closes Today at Midnight | Feedback on Credit Card Surcharges
This is your last chance to complete a 1 minute anonymous survey, outlining your approach to new credit card surcharges. Results will be shared with our accommodation members only to help operators understand how their competition is moving forward with the changes. The survey will close tonight at midnight and will be shared tomorrow morning.
