Center of Excellence Welcomes New Executive Director

On November 16th, the Center of Excellence welcomed a new Executive Director, Jason Petrait. Jason brings a wealth of education and industry experience to the role, most recently at the Workforce Development Council of Seattle-King County, where he oversaw manufacturing and apprenticeship grants and contracts, board relations, and communications. Prior, Jason served as Director of Special Projects at South Seattle College, managing certificate and pre-apprenticeship programs in advanced manufacturing.

"I'm pleased to join the Center and build on the great work that came before," said Jason. "From the space subsector to unmanned aerial systems, it's now a new era in aerospace in Washington, and the COE, with Everett Community College and the rest of our system across the state, will be ready to supply tomorrow's workforce."

New Mission Acceleration Center Opens in Downtown Seattle

On Friday October 29th, Representative Rick Larsen (WA-02) cut the ribbon on the new Mission Acceleration Center (MAC), a partnership of the Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition, Impact Washington, the National Security Innovation Network, and TechBridge. The MAC’s goal is to remove barriers to engaging the Department of Defense and accelerate defense innovation.

Speakers, including Justin Dunnicliff from the National Security Innovation Network and Deloit Wolfe of Impact Washington, highlighted opportunities for the venture community, academia, and industry to come together under the same roof to support the national security ecosystem.

Industry Spotlight: Eviation

In November Everett Community College leadership, along with the Center of Excellence, toured Eviation, an Arlington-based electric aircraft maker. With the regulatory push to decarbonize the aviation industry, Eviation is building electric aircraft for short-haul passenger and cargo flights. With ground-breaking technology, an important mission, and a locally-trained workforce, Eviation is a company to watch.
