Indianapolis Pride Parade -
June 11, 2022
Thank you for signing up to march in the Indy Pride Parade! Pride Week is at last upon us, and with it, we have important updates. Please know this may be one of several messages you receive this week, as we send reminders and transmit any further details that may come our way from Indy Pride. Feel free to share this email with others who might want to march in the parade, but may not have registered.
Where and When to Gather - Saturday, June 11

Meet for a brief prayer service at the Chatham Arch pocket park at the corner of N. East and E. St. Clair Streets.

From there, we will proceed to the diocese's assigned parade marshaling station. We will be in the Orange Zone, section O28. The Orange Zone is on N. College Avenue, adjacent to Bottleworks. Enter the Orange Zone at the intersection of 10th and College. You may arrive at the marshaling station as early as 9am. Please plan to be in place no later than 9:45am.

The parade begins promptly at 10am, rain or shine. Expect it to be 60-90 minutes before our group steps off.
During the Parade

Our job is to back up what the banner we'll be carrying at the very front says: "God loves you: no exceptions." Smile, wave - do whatever you can to reflect that love. We'll have a limited number of flags and banners for marchers to carry; we encourage you to bring your own church banners as well. We will have stickers, fans, and candy to hand out to the crowd. Please do not throw items into the crowd.

Please be attentive to the instructions of Indy Pride volunteers along the course, who will be working to move the parade along at a good clip, and maintaining the safety of parade watchers and participants.
After the Parade

De-marshaling will occur roughly at the corner of N. Delaware and E. North Streets. Please return flags and banners to the designated vehicle(s) at that location. Go on to the Pride Festival at Military Park, or go about your Saturday!
We Still Need Help With...

  • Do you have a wagon? If so, please bring it to help us transport extra stocks of fans, stickers, and candy along the parade route. (Also, please let Brendan O'Sullivan-Hale know.)
  • Do you have a vehicle - ideally a pick-up truck or large SUV - that can be ready to receive flags and banners at the de-marshaling station? If so, please contact Brendan O'Sullivan-Hale.
What to Wear & Bring

As of today, the forecast on Saturday is for sunny, mild weather. Dress accordingly, bearing in mind you are likely to be out in the sun for a long period of time. If you have a diocesan Pride t-shirt from the current or prior years, wear one! Otherwise wear a t-shirt representing your congregation if you have one. Bright, solid colors are preferred. Wear comfortable shoes. Sunscreen is recommended. Bring a bottle of water. Pocket-sized snacks are also a good idea.
Parking

Free and metered street parking spaces are all over the neighborhoods surrounding the parade route and marshal stations, but you may need patience to find a spot. Pride is expected to draw approximately 40,000 people this year. Carpool if you can.
