SFY26 Family Survey Results are Posted!

What do they mean for you?

Full results, including data for your local systems, can be found on the ITCVA Public Reporting Page. Now, let’s look at the statewide cumulative results to see how you, as a provider, can help strengthen your local outcomes.

The SFY 2026 Family Survey: Explanation of Results provides a statewide overview of Virginia families’ experiences with the Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia’s early intervention services. The report summarizes responses from a representative sample of 1,670 families and examines how well early intervention services helped families understand their rights, communicate their children’s needs, and support their children’s development and learning.

The findings provide valuable insight into how early intervention services affect the families who receive them. Overall, Virginia surpassed its 2025 targets for all three federally required family‑outcome measures, and the survey highlights opportunities to further strengthen family support and service delivery.

After reviewing the results of the Family Survey data, the key question we should ask ourselves is: "Families have generously shared their experiences with us—how can we improve EI to make it an even more meaningful and impactful experience for them?"

How might you apply the Family Survey results to improve the way you support families?

Practical Ways to Use Family Survey Data

SUPPORTING SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

For the LSM+1 Meeting last April, VEIPD created a handout that compiled professional development resources focused on social-emotional development. This handout also includes a padlet with direct links to each type of PD resource and we suggest that you bookmark the handout and the padlet.

VEIPD Voices

Blog

VEIPD Voices: Rooted in Practice is a gathering space for EI professionals in Virginia and beyond to come together to reflect, problem-solve, and learn from one another. It’s where we can sit with tough questions, envision new approaches, and take small, meaningful steps toward change in our daily practice.

Through VEIPD Voices, you might read about a strategy that sparks an idea, a story that resonates, or a perspective that challenges your assumptions, which is exactly the point. Growth happens when we listen and learn together.

Pyramid Model Framework

Reading Your Child’s Cues

We communicate in many ways, including words, gestures, facial expressions, eye gaze, body movements, physical touch, and sounds. From birth, infants and toddlers communicate without words, and many children continue to use these nonverbal ways to share their needs, feelings, and ideas. As adults, we often focus on spoken words and may miss opportunities for connection, comfort, or getting a need met.

This resource will help caregivers notice, understand, and respond to their child’s cues in supportive and meaningful ways.

A GEM YOU MIGHT HAVE FORGOTTEN?

Elevator Speeches are EI "gems"!

These short videos convey a wealth of information told by someone with lived experience in EI - as a professional or family member, or sometimes both. When you find yourself sharing information about anything related to EI (e.g., Virginia's EI process, strategies, resources, family perspectives, roles, and more) consider using an Elevator Speech to do so. Check out our wide variety of Elevator Speeches.
