Educational Advocacy and PTIC
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a five-year contract to continue serving as the Core Community Partner for the Hudson Valley Region under the Parent Training and Information Center (PTIC) program funded by Starbridge Services, Inc, in Rochester, NY through its PTIC grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Since 2002, PTIC has been an integral component of our Educational Advocacy Program, providing trainings and information and referral services to families of children with disabilities, professionals and youth with disabilities throughout the Hudson Valley. The goal of the program is to increase parents’ capacity to help their children with disabilities improve their early learning, school-aged and post-secondary outcomes, and to increase the capacity of youth to be effective self-advocates.

PTIC is designed to start a process of bringing together parents of children with disabilities and community resources to improve parents’ knowledge and involvement in their children’s lives, and help them better understand their children’s disabilities and education needs, communicate more effectively with school and related professionals, understand their rights and responsibilities under IDEA, and obtain appropriate services for their children.
