Subject: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Preparedness for the Village of Maple Bluff

Dear Residents,

The severity of the Coronavirus outbreak and subsequent reactions have elevated and made many of us reasonably concerned for the well-being of our families, friends, and co-workers. The village staff and I share your concerns. To that end, we want to take this opportunity to share the current status of the village staff and resources.

This week we initiated a number of continuity of operations (COOP) measures to respond to COVID-19. In addition to staff contingency planning and coordination, we enhanced individual hygiene behaviors, increased cleaning practices, compiled critical resources, and implemented social distancing norms. We also took the opportunity to reaffirm our communications with state and local emergency support entities; as well as compiled valuable sources of information that will be critical as events develop.

The village center remains open during normal working hours and all essential services are operational. Classes in village facilities are suspended until further notice and we will advise about reinstatement once we have a better understanding of the situation. Additionally, we are removing public access to the gym and community shared equipment (ie. basketballs and weights) to mitigate unintended transmission concerns. We will provide further information regarding the April 7 th election as we receive guidance from county and state officials.

Our intent moving forward is to evaluate the evolving situation, which includes input and guidance provided at national, state, and local levels. Our relationships and networks are fundamental to providing services you and your families. We anticipate that we may be forced to make some difficult decisions in the coming days.

Although the spread of COVID-19 is an emergent situation, we believe that this provides us an opportunity as a community to grow stronger. The virus was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), but the ability of our communities to respond in a unified manner will dictate the scale of its impact on our society.

Please share this message with residents whom you know don’t currently receive village notifications and encourage them to sign up for updates by contacting the village at (608) 244-3048, or sending an email request to info@villageofmaplebluff.com .
Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Tanner A. Nystrom
