Kish Bank's Kish for the Cure Campaign Raises Record $90,000 for Central PA Cancer-Fighting Non-Profits

Kish Bank is proud to announce that its 2024 Kish for the Cure campaign, an annual employee-led fundraising effort supporting local cancer-related nonprofits, raised another record-breaking grand total of over $90,000. The donations were distributed this week to the campaign's three beneficiaries: the Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund, Pennsylvania Pink Zone, and American Cancer Society events in Central PA.

Kish's annual campaign has raised more than $625,000 in total since 2012, and it continues to grow in scope and impact each year. The Bob Perks Fund, Pink Zone, and American Cancer Society lead the fight against cancer in Central Pennsylvania region by funding cancer research and awareness, treatment programs at local hospitals, and critical financial support for local individuals and families affected by cancer.

Upon receiving the donation, Robin Heim, Board President of the Bob Perks Fund, said, "We are fortunate and so grateful to have Kish Bank in our corner. The partnership between the Bob Perks Funds and Kish Bank has allowed us to allocate more funds every year, thus helping more patients in the counties we serve - every dollar raised helps alleviate the financial burden on cancer patients in our communities. We appreciate every who helped with this hugely successful and record-setting campaign."

Tammy Miller, Board President of the PA Pink Zone, said, "The Pink Zone is so blessed to have a caring partnership with Kish Bank. Everyone who is part of the Kish community shows an incredible passion and commitment to the breast cancer community. Kish's support allows us to assist so many more people in Central PA. We are beyond grateful."

Tom Chucuddy, Senior Development Manager for the American Cancer Society, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization and its mission, saying, "The American Cancer Society is the leading cancer-fighting organization with a vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. We could not advance our mission without the passionate support of our volunteers and our communities. Cancer touches all of us in one way or another. By supporting the American Cancer Society, Kish Bank is helping to bring hope to those facing a cancer diagnosis."

Kish would like to extend heartfelt thanks to its customers and partners, local businesses, and the community for supporting the fight against cancer with donations to the Kish for the Cure campaign.

Gov's Budget Pitch Seeks Millions to Help PA. Hospitals

Eric Schiccitano, CNHI News

February 13, 2025

Health care is a primary point of focus within Gov. Josh Shapiro's sweeping budget proposal for Pennsylvania and part of that plan includes millions in support of rural hospitals. More than a week has passed since Shapiro delivered his annual budget address during a joint session of the Pennsylvania General Assembly at the State Capitol, unveiling details on a $51.5 billion general fund proposal for 2025-26 - about 7% above the current year's spending plan. Senate Republicans immediately voiced opposition to the proposed spending increase and use of $4.5 billion in reserve funds to balance spending and revenues. They're concerned with a projected structural deficit and depletion of savings, but rural health care in particular does stand among initiatives where bipartisanship can be found. Next week, legislative scrutiny begins with a series of committee hearings in the Democratic-controlled House and Republican-majority Senate before negotiations heat up later in June. The executive budget proposal cites "significant structural challenges" faced by hospitals due in part to low reimbursement rates and increasing costs for labor and care delivery.

Is an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Account (ICHRA) Right for Your Company?

An ICHRA enables employers to allocated a fixed dollar amount to employees on a tax-free basis, which employees can use to purchase individual health insurance through the marketplace or private insurance providers. This arrangement provides a high degree of flexibility, allowing employees to choose the specific coverage that aligns with their unique health needs and family situations. For employers, this flexibility offers a valuable opportunity to design personalized benefit solutions that cater to a diverse workforce. By implementing an ICHRA, employers can offer a benefits strategy that provides value to employees while aligning with the company's own financial and operational goals.

The first objective for a business owner is to assess whether an ICHRA is an appropriate fit for their organization. Unlike traditional group health plans, ICHRAs are often most advantageous for small to mid-sized businesses, or companies with a widely dispersed or diverse workforce. For example, in industries with high level of seasonal or part-time workers, traditional group plans may be financially burdensome, especially if the employees have varying insurance needs. By evaluating the organization's workforce composition, turnover rate, and budgetary considerations, decision makers can determine if an ICHRA makes sense.

One word of caution, there are complexities concerning ICHRAs that need to be fully understood before considering them as a part of any employee benefit package. It's best to consult with a professional for advice and direction.

Did you know........

Small businesses represent the largest segment by number of most local chamber membership rolls. Results in the research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street indicate the impact of local chamber membership on small businesses is very powerful. If a consumer knows a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 44 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 57 percent increase in its local reputation and a 63 percent increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

Research indicates that chamber membership stimulates business-to-business commerce in the local community. Other businesses in town are more likely to do business with you and your company if you are a member of the local chamber. Because a major part of a small business typically comes from business-to-business services, it is essential to maintain a positive standing within the local business community.
