November 2022 E-Newsletter

Save the Date: November 29th is Giving Tuesday!

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving where people all over the world unite to support their favorite nonprofits. Eden I&R is counting on our supporters to come together to support our vital work of connecting people to life-saving information and resources.

When you give to Eden I&R, you aren’t just providing our community with much-needed access to social and health services. You’re also helping us give hope to our most vulnerable individuals and families in Alameda County. Will you join us?

Honoring National Native American Heritage Month

November is designated as Indigenous People’s Heritage Month, also known as Native American Heritage Month, which is an important time to reflect on the essential role of the first stewards of the lands we now call the United States.

If you are looking for more information, the Alameda County Library has a number of resources available to help you explore the history, art, culture, and traditions of Indigenous peoples, such as staff-recommended novels, poetry, and interactive maps.

Celebrate Information and Referral Day

November 16th marks the celebration known as National Information and Referral (I&R) Day. It is an opportunity for us to acknowledge and appreciate the work done daily by our team of professionals who link services to people through information and referral programs.

If you or someone you know needs help, Team 211 is there 24/7. Please join us in celebrating and expressing our gratitude for their tireless work.

Seeking Volunteers

We are seeking volunteers to join our cause! 211 is often the first step for vulnerable people who don’t know where to turn for help. Volunteers are an essential part of these efforts. Without their time and energy, we would not be able to maintain the breadth of our services. There are many ways to get involved.

Please get in touch with us at 510-727-9565 if you are interested in helping, or visit us online by clicking 'Get Involved' to learn more.

Eden I&R/211 in the Community

Alameda County Preparedness Day

On Oct. 22nd, Team 211 attended Alameda County Preparedness Day, and our Disaster Preparedness Coordinator, Lars Eric Holm, conducted two workshops throughout the day. Attendees learned about vital resources and information that will keep them safe when an emergency strikes. Thank you to Supervisor Keith Carson for hosting this fantastic community event and having us join!

You can read more about the day in this recent article from Oakland North. To learn more about Eden I&R's Disaster Preparedness programs, visit us at edenir.org/disaster-resources.

OUSD Community School Managers Resources Fair

Our team was recently invited to participate in a resource fair for Community School Managers (CSMs) in the Oakland United School District. It was wonderful to connect with all the CSMs and the other vendors and hand out information on our programs and services.

If you would like Team 211 at your next event, please reach out to our Development & Outreach Associate, Bridget Schultz, at bschultz@edenir.org.

Thank You to Our Partners

Partner Spotlight - Aces Aware

National Child Mental Health Month is observed in November. To recognize the importance of this month, we would like to highlight the work of Aces Aware. The ACEs Aware initiative is a first-in-the-nation effort to screen patients for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to help improve and save lives. ACEs Aware strives to create a better world for our children, families, and communities by working together across sectors to prevent and address the impact of ACEs and toxic stress.

Donor Spotlight - California Department of Public Health

Thank you to the California Department of Public Health for providing Eden I&R with the funding to proactively identify and refer eligible 211 callers to the California Smokers' Hotline. This project was formed to increase awareness and use of existing free tobacco cessation services among low-income individuals who disproportionately experience high rates of tobacco use. The long-term goals are to accelerate quitting behaviors and significantly reduce tobacco use.
