Dear Parents of the Class of 2020:
I am sure everyone has fond memories of your final months in high school. Even though it was over twenty five years ago for me, I still remember those days well. I feel so badly for our seniors that the final months of their senior year have been upended by this virus.
As several people have asked, I wanted to get everyone an update regarding scheduled end of year activities. It is my goal to still have at least a baccalaureate mass and graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020. I truly believe there needs to be appropriate closure and an appropriate celebration for the kids. While we won't know for several weeks if graduation will happen as scheduled on May 29 or not, please know that I will do everything I appropriately can do to ensure there is eventually a celebration for the students.
Once we know more about a realistic timeline, I will also be able to make a determination about Senior Week activities. I, too, will do my best to make these happen, even if not the week of Memorial Day, as they are currently scheduled.
As you are aware, there is a $250 fee included in your March tuition bill for Senior Fees and Activities. If you would prefer to hold off paying this fee for now, you are welcome to do so (especially since we have waived late fees). If you decide to pay it or already have done so, and certain activities can not be held, you will receive a credit for those.
Finally, regarding refunds for the Washington, D.C. trip. As soon as all of the money is refunded to ND, and I can safely get someone to school to issue refund checks, we will do so. Honestly, considering the current situation, this will probably take a few more weeks.
Please know that the seniors are at the forefront of my mind ... and it is my goal to still find a way to give them the proper sendoff from Notre Dame that they deserve. Of course as soon as I know more, I will be sure to share with you. In the meantime, stay safe.
