INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS GRADUATING IN DECEMBER

Dear Graduating Students,

We would like to congratulate you on this significant milestone in your academic career. You have distinguished yourselves with hard work and perseverance, and doing so while managing many unique challenges. We understand how difficult this semester has been, in particular, and recognize the toll this has taken on you.

Please work with your faculty to clarify your path towards completion of degree requirements. Consider consulting with your academic advisor on any other additional obstacles towards your planned graduation. Your advisor may recommend additional resources that may be available during this challenging time.

To help you prepare for graduation and the transition for your future after The New School, we would like to share more information about the specific offerings Student Success & Engagement will provide to graduates this semester and beyond.

As always, your health and wellbeing are paramount, and we encourage you to reach out to our wellness resources as needed. Student Health Services is available to meet with graduating students over Zoom or in person to process events, discuss preparation for graduation, and offer general support. Please contact Liz Clark to make an appointment with a counselor.

As a graduate finishing during the middle of the academic year, you will also be invited to various Spring activities. While you will technically be an alumnus, we hope you choose to participate in these annual programs. These offerings include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Countdown to Commencement Programs, including our 100 Nights until Graduation celebration and annual boat cruise;
  • Affinity Celebrations to honor our Black, Latinx, LGBTQIAA+, Asian Pacific Islander and Desi American, indigenous, veteran, and first-generation students;
  • Graduation portrait opportunities; and,
  • May 19, 2023 Commencement Ceremony invitations for you to share with family and friends

Additionally, the Office of Career Development & Experience will provide ongoing career programming for undergraduate and graduate students to help support students' career skills. Please see below for more details. Sign-up instructions, along with more information, will be sent in early January.

For Undergraduate students (seniors):

  • Career Day Plus: a one-day series of career skill-building workshops: résumé, cover letter, and interview skills followed by résumé review sessions.

For Graduate students (final year):

  • Career Intensive Plus: A series of career-intensive workshops where you will learn how to articulate the value of your degree, how to create strategic and persuasive résumés, and how to develop targeted searches. Each workshop will be interspersed with technique practice labs.

In the coming months, the Office of Alumni Engagement will be in contact with you regarding alumni networking and resources. To connect with your new community of 85,000+ alumni, you are invited to join The New School Network, where you can find an alumni directory; a space to share your news; global, affinity, and career clubs and opportunities to seek out mentors and job openings.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to [email protected]. We are here to support you.
