Hybrids Aren't Just Cars

The new Hybrid type course feature, added in Student Manager version 100, allows you to specify how many seats are in-person and how many are virtual. You specify how many of the course Maximum are physical seats-the rest will be virtual seats.

ACEweb version 65 and later adds support for Hybrid courses! When a registrant adds the course to their Cart, they can choose which type of seat they want (see 1st image below).

When all the physical seats are taken, they cannot select that option (see 2nd image).

You can also add a ##-HybridInfo-## section to your registration confirmation email template that can include information specific to hybrid type courses. For example, the final image shows the course URL and hybrid Online Note if the registrant selected the Virtual option.

Tech Tip of the Month: Recycle Report Area and Recycle Query

There are two often unknown checkboxes on almost all report option screens: Recycle Report Area and Recycle Query.

Recycle Report Area is handy for when you need to run a series of reports all within the same report area, as you’ll be zipped right back to the report options screen when your report runs and you close it/print it.

Recycle Query is similar in that it will remember whatever query and values you enter, allowing you to bypass that process for subsequent reports when you check the box. This is helpful to find that right additional report without having to enter in your query values over and over.

Report of the Month: Report Wizard Dynamic Expressions

I read and write a lot. Numbers and letters tend to blur together if I do it for a long time and there is nothing breaking up the monotony. (See what I did there?)

Reports are the same thing. From time to time, you need things to pop out at you in order to find them. For example, you are reviewing an Enrollment report trying to determine which courses haven't met the minimum enrollment. Reading a bunch of numbers, you tend to lose sight of this. So, let's make it pop.

In the properties of the field, go to the style tab. You can do dynamic expressions for font and color, but I'll show color in this example. So, in the case of an Enrollment report and seeing courses that haven't met the minimum, the expression would be coenrolled<comin (you can use the expression builder to build your expression instead of knowing the names of things off the top of your head or looking them up in the help guide). The first image shows you my dynamic expression and the second shows the report with the results.

With a little imagination, you'll find many ways to use this feature. Happy dynamic reporting!
