| | A Major Milestone for Youth Volunteerism! | | |
Since launching in 2011, teens in our Youth United: Varsity in Volunteerism (ViV) program have contributed an incredible 100,000+ volunteer hours to our community—and they’re just getting started.
As we look ahead to the program’s 15th anniversary, there’s even more to celebrate. This past school year marked a record-breaking milestone, with students logging an impressive 13,991 hours of service, the highest in ViV history! Even better, all six high schools in Skagit County are now part of this impactful program.
Through volunteering, these young people are building real-world skills, gaining confidence, and making meaningful connections—all while giving back. It’s truly a win for them and for our community.

Once approved, we’ll share it with participants eager to get involved | | Students from all six high schools are invited to join ViV now and start logging volunteer hours for 2026-2027 program year. Mental health touches every part of life - from housing and work to relationships and community. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. That’s why May National Mental Health Awareness Month invites us to learn about mental health, share resources, and support the individuals and communities that need it most:
- Visit SAMHSA’s Find Help & Support page link to learn about treatment and recovery options. Or explore national resources and information here
- If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org.
| | If you’d like to take your Mental Health Month support to the next level, consider becoming trained in Youth or Adult Mental Health First Aid with us. These evidence-based courses help you gain the confidence and skills to notice when a teen or adult could use assistance and help connect them with options for further care. - Double-sided - English on one side and Spanish on the other
- Organized by milestone ages
- Includes tips for supporting growth and learning
- The charts come in two designs - food and nature!
Skagit-branded charts will be included in the newborn outreach bags that are distributed to families at Skagit Valley Hospital and Island Health through our Help Me Grow Skagit system. If you are interested, download or order a hard copy for your family by clicking the images below!
