The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has eased travel recommendations for more than 110 countries and territories, reports Reuters. The CDC's new ratings include 61 nations that were lowered from its highest "Level 4" rating that discouraged all travel, the agency confirmed earlier this week. An additional 50 countries and territories have been lowered to "Level 2" or "Level 1," a CDC spokeswoman said. Countries at "Level 1" are ranked lowest for COVID-19 risks and now include Albania, Belize, Iceland, Israel, Singapore, and South Korea.

As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) begins easing travel recommendations to many countries and territories, the Biden administration is making progress toward reopening borders, reports Travel Pulse. According to the White House, it is creating ‘working groups’ with other countries, including Canada, Mexico, the European Union, and the United Kingdom to lift restrictions. "While we are not reopening travel today, we hope that these expert working groups will help us use our collective expertise to chart a path forward, with a goal of reopening international travel with our key partners when it is determined that it is safe to do so," a White House official said. The news drew praise from the US Travel Association. “US Travel and its membership believe a public-private task force can quickly develop a blueprint to reopen international inbound travel and jumpstart a sustained job and economic recovery,” said president and CEO of US Travel Roger Dow. “With decreased infection rates in the US combined with the administration’s goal of having a critical mass of Americans fully vaccinated by July 4th, there is a true near-term opportunity to safely begin to welcome back international visitors.” Dow praised the administration for working to safely reopen.

France and Spain are now open to vaccinated Americans, joining several other European countries who have independently decided to ease pandemic restrictions ahead of the European Union's agreement to reopen its borders to fully vaccinated travelers and those from countries where COVID-19 is under control, reports USA Today. The EU is still undecided on the date for reopening, stating only that it plans to reopen its borders sometime later this summer. With no clear timeline, countries such as Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Greece, France, Romania, and Spain have taken separate measures to begin allowing vaccinated travelers to visit. For instance, France and Spain, are accepting fully vaccinated Americans with proof they've had their final dose of an approved vaccine at least 14 days prior to travel. Others, such as Austria, have said it is admitting Americans as long as they've had at least one round of their vaccine.

Delta Air Lines has announced that it is returning service to top destinations in France, now that the country is allowing vaccinated travelers to visit without quarantine requirements. Delta will offer two daily flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), once daily from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and three times per week from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). JFK will also include three-times-weekly service to Nice beginning on July 8. Additionally, the airline announced three-times-weekly service to Paris from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) would be added on July 7, while daily flights between Paris and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) are scheduled to launch on August 5.

The CEOs of the five carriers that offer UK-US passenger services – American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic – plus JetBlue, which launches services later this summer, have joined to call on the UK and US governments for the re-opening of the UK-US travel corridor, reports Business Travel News. As part of the appeal to governments, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was asked to consider removing the need for travelers returning to the UK from "green list" countries to complete a PCR test on their arrival, instead calling for lateral flow tests, used in care homes and schools, with only positive tests requiring a PCR test. Shai Weiss, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, said, "There is no reason for the US to be absent from the UK green list. This overly cautious approach fails to reap the benefits of the successful vaccination programs in both the UK and the US." Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, said, "It's clear that the infection rates of our countries indicate an extraordinarily low risk to travel between the US the UK, provided travelers are vaccinated or can produce a negative PCR test prior to boarding a flight."
