The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced that the current federal requirement for masks on public transportation will remain in effect until at least January 18, 2022, reports CBS News. The announcement comes as the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread across the country. "Extending the federal mask mandate for travel makes sense for the current health environment and has the travel industry's full support," US Travel Association executive vice president of public affairs and policy Tori Emerson Barnes said.

The Canadian government within the next few months will require all commercial air travelers to be vaccinated against COVID-19, the government's Treasury Board, a committee of Cabinet members, announced on Friday. Business Travel News reports that in addition to air travelers, the requirement will extend to rail passengers traveling between Canadian provinces and cruise ship passengers as well. The requirements will allow "alternative measures, such as testing and screening" on a case-by-case basis for those who are unable to be vaccinated, according to the board's announcement.

Delta Air Lines is launching a new Air+Rail program in partnership with Thalys high-speed trains to provide rail connections between Amsterdam and the Belgian cities of Brussels and Antwerp.
The new agreement enables customers to transfer between plane and train at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol with one ticket booking. From the train station, located in Schiphol’s Central Plaza, there is frequent service to Brussels and Antwerp with journey times of just over an hour. Thalys high-speed trains offer power outlets at each seat as well as Wi-Fi on every train. Customers can either check in on Accesrail.com to get their boarding pass, using their Delta ticket confirmation, or can obtain the train ticket at the train station ticket window. The train ticket will show the seat and carriage of travel. On the day of travel, customers arriving in Amsterdam from a flight will go through customs as normal and collect their bags before connecting on the train.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is piloting a biometric self-boarding e-gate at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), according to Airport Technology. EWR International Facility supervisor Raymond Viggiano said: “The passenger walks right up to the e-gate, which takes a biometric scan and confirms a passenger is okay to board. There’s very little interaction needed there.” Scanning a passenger’s face, the new biometric system will not only save time but also limit physical contact, thereby addressing safety concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
