TRAVEL REBOUNDING AMID DWINDLING COVID-19 ENTRY RESTRICTIONS
American travelers have the most international destination options to visit since the pandemic started as more and more countries lift COVID-19 travel restrictions, reports Travel Pulse. Currently, there are 118 countries and territories that welcome travelers from the United States without COVID-19 vaccination requirements, while another 109 still require testing, quarantines, or both for unvaccinated travelers. Americans with a complete set of vaccine and booster shots can access 190 countries and territories without any testing restrictions. As a result, almost two-thirds of US travelers are planning a trip during the next three months. Earlier this month, Japan reopened to visa-free travel from dozens of countries worldwide, eliminating its daily entry cap on arrivals and making it easier for travelers to visit without a qualified booking through an approved travel agency or tour operator. With the reopening of Japan, there are over 30 destinations that ended testing and isolation mandates over the last seven weeks, including Bhutan, Canada, New Zealand, and the Bahamas.

SEPTEMBER AIRLINE ON-TIME PERFORMANCE AGAIN IMPROVES
The average North American airline on-time performance improved by more than 5 percentage points for the second straight month, reports Business Travel News. September's weighted on-time averaged reached 77.4 percent versus 72.1 percent in August, according to Cirium’s monthly report. Every airline that made the report showed month-over-month on-time improvement. The report includes carriers that were in the top 20 percent in terms of flight frequency, total seats, and available seat kilometers. Delta Air Lines (89.2 percent) retained the top spot, with United Airlines (86.9 percent) next, followed by Alaska Airlines (84 percent). The three largest US carriers each made the global list of most on-time carriers with Delta third, United sixth, and American Airlines ninth.

AMERICAN AIRLINES TO BOOST PREMIUM SEATS BY 60 PERCENT ON SOARING DEMAND
American Airlines is expanding the number of premium seats on its intercontinental planes by up to 60 percent over the next four years, reports Skift. American’s onboard investment will come at the expense of long-haul first class, as the carrier will remove lie-flat first class seats from its Boeing 777-300ERs beginning in 2024. American’s 777s, as well as its Boeing 787-9s, will receive a new business class and premium economy products as part of the upgrades. The new layouts on these aircraft will represent a 30 percent increase in premium seats on the former, and a 63 percent increase on the latter. American has also unveiled cabin layouts for its new Airbus A321XLRs, a new long-haul narrowbody plane could begin arriving in 2024, with 32 premium seats.

JETBLUE WILL SOON ANNOUNCE A EUROPE EXPANSION
JetBlue will announce an expansion of Europe service in the near future, reports Travel Weekly. The airline currently has five Airbus A321LR (long-range) narrowbody aircraft with six more scheduled for delivery before the end of next year. Those new planes will be used to support more transatlantic routes, CEO Robin Hayes said earlier this week. JetBlue currently flies from New York JFK and Boston to London Heathrow and London Gatwick, with most of those flights operated with A321LRs. The carrier will eventually operate 26 A321LRs and the even longer-range A321XLR. "We see an opportunity out of New York and Boston to fly to a number of European markets, and we are confidently progressing with those plans," Hayes said.
