US AIRLINES ISSUE TRAVEL WAIVERS FOR BRAZIL DUE TO CIVIL UNREST

Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have put travel waivers in effect on flights to Brazil due to post-election civil unrest, reports Travel Weekly. In the aftermath of their presidential election, hundreds of blockades have been set up across the country, including some impacting airports. Delta flyers who booked their ticket by November 1st to or from Sao Paulo by November 4th can rebook free of charge for flights through November 7th. American's waiver applies to bookings made by October 31st for flights through November 2nd to or from Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paolo. The waiver also applies to basic economy travelers who are not normally allowed to make itinerary changes; they can rebook by November 3rd for flights through November 8th.

DELTA PILOTS VOTE TO AUTHORIZE STRIKE

Travel Market Report reports that the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents 15,000 Delta Air Lines pilots, voted on Monday to authorize a strike if a deal isn't reached on a new employee contract. The National Mediation Board, the independent agency that coordinates labor relations in the US railroad and airline industry, will offer Delta management and the ALPA an opportunity to arbitrate a deal. Should either party decline arbitration, the two would enter a 30-day “cooling-off” period. After that, ALPA would have the right to strike, and Delta would have the right to lock out its pilots.

NEW YORK EARMARKS $50 MILLION FOR AIRPORT PROJECTS

The State Government of New York has allocated $50 million to facilitate airport modernization and safety improvement projects, reports Airport Technology. Administered by the New York State Department of Transportation, the funding aims to support environmental resilience and regional economic competitiveness of the state’s public-use airports, besides enabling safety upgrades and overhaul of operations. Governor of New York Kathy Hochul said: “Our airports are not just travelers' first impression of New York State but should be a lasting impression too, and it is critical that we provide them with a world-class airport experience." This funding will be provided to the airports under the Aviation Capital Grant Program, which is part of New York State’s commitment to support airports across the region.
