INGRAM GALLERY

December 2022

Greetings!

December is filled with light and reflection at the gallery with frequent visits from art lovers as well as artists delivering new works.

This issue of Ingram Art News offers a contemplative eye at freshly arrived paintings from the studios of Ryan Dineen, Daniel Hughes and Travis Shilling. Later, we look at the visionary art in the exhibition Great(er) Toronto, taking place December 10 - 21, as well as Artful Greetings, a joyful collection of original printmaking by preeminent historical artists.

We look forward to your next visit, sharing in further art news, and connecting in appreciation and abundant creativity at the gallery.

New Works | At the Gallery

Travis Shilling has composed spectacular large-scale canvases that have just arrived. Brimming with paint and colour, these newest oils embody the artist’s inimitable style through his pensive approach to folklore, the past and the present.

Shilling’s work increasingly creates a sense of immediacy and tempo for the viewer as the eye follows the artist’s electric brushwork and brilliant decision-making. Shilling’s storytelling channels otherworldly apparitions into environments that are somehow familiar, warm, poignant and artful.

Breadbox - oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches | DANIEL HUGHES

Daniel Hughes' recent visit to the gallery was accompanied by his newest oil works, including Breadbox (above). The magnificent painting highlights the strength of the figurative artist’s acclaimed creations with its expressive power and boundless layering of swelling colour.

Ryan Dineen has delivered his newest Georgian Bay landscape, The Point (below). The revered subject matter is captured with befitting grandness as the artist’s cultured treatment opens up expanse upon expanse for its viewer.

Great(er) Toronto

December 10 - 21 . 2022

Great(er) Toronto is an exhibition of refreshing visions of our city through the eyes of celebrated contemporary and historical artists. Between the quiet doorways and vivacious moments of city life, Great(er) Toronto explores changing modern lives through our shared structures, spaces and creative histories.

Viewing Toronto from exceptional and often unexpected vantage points, artists over time evoke acknowledgement of the majesty and under-appreciated beauty of the city.

The collection highlights works from different time periods, scales, and mediums, including those by iconic gallery artists such as Rachel Berman (1946-2014), Barker Fairley, R.C.A. (1887-1986), Albert Franck, R.C.A. (1899-1973) and Florence Vale (1909-2003). Alongside these pieces are current masterful works by contemporary artists Jonathan Castellino, Ryan Dineen, David Michael Scott, Steven Volpe and Sean Yelland.

Great(er) Toronto takes place from December 10 – 21. Please be in touch for further details, pricing and purchase inquiries.
