INGRAM GALLERY

Greetings!

Jane Everett comes home to the gallery this month with Long Road Home. The new oil paintings were made between the prairies, the Shuswap, and Palm Springs. Everett travels east for opening day, and you are invited to join in the celebration Saturday, October 17, from 1pm to 3pm.

Due East 6am III - oil on canvas, 42 x 64 inches

JANE EVERETT

Long Road Home

October 17 – November 5, 2026

Artist's Opening Reception:

Saturday, October 17 // 1pm - 3pm

Everett paints the experience of a place. Water, air, and light translated by her skillful hand. A paddle slips into the lake much like a brush moves across the canvas. Both enter, pull, and lift. Sunlight breaks on the surface and comes back up from below. A line rides the water the way a ripple does, slight, and carrying more than it should.

I Stilled My Paddle - oil on drafting film, 24 x 18 inches

In this new collection, the colour of beauty arrives as a shift in tone. A layer appears, then fades. Values trade places with their reflections, while the surface keeps the memory. Everett's ethereal works are a welcome meditation.

The Afternoon Wore On & I Longed to Step from the Car Into Blue - oil on canvas, 36 x 48 inches

The road in the title of Everett’s solo exhibition is a real road. This series has been made from that geography. Long Road Home is the next turn in a conversation the gallery has been having with the artist for years: water, light, and what remains after fire.

Last June, When the Water Was High - oil on canvas, 60 x 50 inches

I have been thinking of what unifies the sprawl of work I have from the last couple of years, and what is most on my mind is the concept of home. Driving home to my parents’ cottage across the prairies when the children were small, the home and the sense of place we have in the Shuswap, and now our SoCal time. All three have had a profound influence on my work, but what always unites my work is water: the prairie slough, the waters at the mouth of Onyx Creek, and the pool (truly!) in Palm Springs.

—Jane Everett

Due East 6am I - oil on canvas, 36 x 65 inches

Everett’s literary titles speak to many places and one element. On the prairies, a slough is a small brightness in a long drive. At Onyx Creek the Shuswap rises in spring and the trees are submerged. Light comes down and reflects back up. In Palm Springs infinity pools hold the desert sky. The largest canvas in this exhibition, at over five by seven and a half feet (below), is a glorious blend of nature and structure. Sunnylands Garden began with a Monet, now in the National Gallery in Washington, and was planted only in indigenous desert plants. The pools there inspired Everett. Art turned toward nature, and nature turned back toward art.

Infinity I - oil on canvas, 65 x 92 inches

Painting from nature still answers something we crave. Everett paints movement, layers, memory, and hope in her waters. Home, in these paintings, is the road back, and the light ahead.

Still Waters Run Deep I - oil on drafting film, 60 x 36 inches

Jane Everett lives and creates between the interior of British Columbia and Southern California, with deep roots on the prairies. Born in Winnipeg in 1958, she is a graduate of Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and has been based in the Okanagan since 1991, travelling between Kelowna and a cottage on the north shore of Shuswap Lake. Her work is held across the country, including the Buhler Gallery and the Vernon Public Art Gallery, and is on public view at the Grand Okanagan in Kelowna, Royal Canadian Securities in Winnipeg, and the Administration Building at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. She created the visuals for Ballet Kelowna’s Macbeth, Saskatoon’s Nuit Blanche, and Light Up Kelowna with the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan. Everett is featured in Patricia Bovey’s Western Voices in Canadian Art (2023).

Echoing her subject matter, there is a fluidity through the collection. From her luminous works on aluminum panels and canvas through to absorbing renderings on drafting film that read like stained glass, Everett’s hand stays with water and light.

Smoke Poem II - oil on drafting film, 20.5 x 15 inches

This is Jane Everett’s fourth solo exhibition with the gallery, following Raindance, As Kingfishers Catch Fire, and Slipstream. Please be in touch to preview the collection and to receive the exhibition catalogue. We are here to be of help.

That Ribbon of Highway I - oil on aluminum panel, 16 x 20 inches

Long Road Home continues at the gallery through to November 5. This especially radiant new collection of paintings ask to be met in person, at true scale, where the layers appear and disappear as you move. Join us Saturday, October 17, from 1pm to 3pm, and meet Jane Everett. We look forward to welcoming you, and to standing in Everett’s light together.

With bright wishes,
