Smoke Ring Day I - oil on canvas, 60 x 48 inches

Travelling from Kelowna to Toronto for opening day, Everett will be at the gallery throughout the afternoon. Her landscapes dance beyond the bounds of canvas and paint. Balanced in their energy and imagery, Everett’s paintings inspire as we revel in their abstraction.

JANE EVERETT

Raindance

September 7 - 25 . 2024

Opening Reception with the Artist:

Saturday, September 7 | 1pm to 3pm

Eclipse I - oil on canvas, 24 x 30 inches

Everett’s meditative and hopeful Raindance invites us to water where life springs forth and light abounds. Through her combination of solid and ethereal mark-making, the artist enables us to journey past the surface. Standing in front of an Everett canvas one can sense the innermost layer of Earth’s atmosphere where we live, breathe, and see weather.

Marsh II - oil on canvas, 48 x 34 inches

The Water Rose and Rose II - oil on canvas, 36 x 36 inches

The freeing and gentle beauty that radiates welcomes the viewer as we join in the artist’s celebratory symphony of line, colour, and meaning. Blending reality with introspection, Everett uses anchors of the familiar as overture to her hope-filled compositions. The viewer participates in her harmonic landscapes, feeling pleasure in the consideration of the balance of nature.

The fires that are now a predictable part of an Okanagan summer are on my mind while I paint. You can see the pentimento of the landscape with which I usually begin my compositions: fish jumping, swimming ladders, waterlilies, and of course, trees.

The fires have ravaged the landscape, but I am not painting the destruction they leave behind. I'm painting the water. I'm painting the lake, the fire pond, and the mouth of the creek where the high water drowns the willows. I'm painting resilience and hope.

I'm painting a prayer for rain.
