“Happy Birthday, Church!”
The Day of Pentecost is one of the principal days of the liturgical year, closing the Season of Easter. The name “Pentecost” is derived from a Greek word, pentecoste, meaning “fiftieth day.”
The scene at Pentecost is depicted in the mosaic image above as described in Acts 2. It captures the moment the promised Holy Spirit, who had already been active in many ways throughout the Old Testament and the Gospels, descends upon the apostles and others in the form of flaming tongues of fire. The vibrant red liturgical color for Pentecost symbolizes the power and passion of the Holy Spirit empowering a frightened, timid crowd cowering behind closed doors to being thrust out into action as a bold community of faith to proclaim the Gospel in a way that could be understood throughout the world. We are among those called by the Holy Spirit to be the Church together as an interdependent/connected body to continue sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
You are invited to wear RED this Sunday as we gather in worship and celebrate Pentecost JOY, the pouring out of the Holy Spirit, and “the Birthday of the Church.”
Come, Holy Spirit.

The women's restroom on the south (garden/cemetery) end of the Family Life Center is under repair because of water damage. It will not be available for us this weekend. There are two restrooms available on the north (kitchen) end of the FLC. One to the right (near the vending machine) and another to the left (between Room 7 and the kitchen). These will be designated women's restrooms for this Sunday. The men's restroom on the south end is working fine and remains the option for men. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you to those helping with the repair.
Shalom,
Sandra
