Pastor's Notes

A message from

Pastor Will Malambri

May 28, 2026

May has been a month of special worship services. This week is no different. In all our services we will join the church universal in celebrating Trinity Sunday and, at Belin Memorial UMC, we will also celebrate Confirmation during the 11 AM service in The Sanctuary.

This group of confirmands have asked interesting questions, participated with energy and enthusiasm, and grown in their faith and commitment. I’m grateful to them, their families, all who helped with the Confirmation process, and the church family who made this meaningful season of preparation possible. The Confirmands are ready to be professing members of the church and we are ready to receive them.

Confirmands profess their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord and commit to serve him as faithful members of the church and as Christ’s representatives in the world. They are joining a local church and an international denomination that is Trinitarian in belief.

Trinity Sunday celebrates that God is one, unified, loving Divine presence and that God is also three distinct, co-equal, inseverable, eternal Persons. It’s a mystery – one worth honoring, as this article explains.

Less mysterious, yet a vivid example of individuals connecting well in service to our Triune God is Belin Memorial’s excellent staff. Each member does her or his job very well, working together to lead and support good and faithful ministries. I’m grateful for their care, commitment, cohesion, and consistency.

One staff member who has been deeply committed and consistent in providing great service is Wendy Zulanch. Wendy has served the church in multiple roles, including her current post as Family Life Center Director. Wendy will retire on June 30, completing 18 years of service. Wendy has helped the church communicate effectively, schedule and arrange spaces for vital ministries, remain well-supplied and supported, all while demonstrating great care for individuals and the church as a whole. We will miss Wendy’s daily presence among us and remain grateful for her many contributions.

As we pray God’s blessings on Wendy’s new chapter, we do the same for Cindy Mullins who will become our new Family Life Center Director on July 1. Cindy has been our Director of Communications for two and a half years, giving lots of time and attention to helping us develop and publish bulletins, Inlet Views, and other forms of getting the word out. She has also given of herself in The Harbor worship, in support of the Blessing of the Inlet and the Fall Harvest Festival & BBQ, and much more. She has proven deeply committed to the people and ministries of Belin Memorial UMC.

Cindy is well-suited to serve as the Director of the Family Life Center, bringing her organizational skills, customer service, retail management, and congregational relationships to that position. She will build upon the excellent work Wendy has done in making sure the Family Life Center is well-scheduled and supported and that meaningful ministries are facilitated. I am grateful for what Wendy has done in that position and for what Cindy will do.

Of course, Cindy accepting the FLC Director position opens up the Director of Communications position. Our search for that Director will begin soon. We will expand the position to include a marketing/public relations element, additional website support, and an increased social media presence.

Wendy’s, Cindy’s, the new Director’s, all the staff’s, pastors’, and congregation members’ work is in service to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, that Jesus’ followers may experience the gift of community and become more like Jesus. Here are some ways to help in that:

  1. Register your children for Vacation Bible School (please do so by this Monday, June 1). For more information about VBS, contact Kim Oakley (kimo@belinumc.org; 843.357.5194).
  2. Serve in support (as a teacher or an assistant) of Children’s Church and Sunday School. Contact Kim Oakley for more information.
  3. Register your children for Colonial Kids Camp that starts on Monday, June 15, and continues through Thursday, June 18. It will be from 12 Noon till 3 PM in the FLC. They’ll learn more of what it was like to live in the 18th century and will celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America in a fun and unforgettable way. For more information, contact Camp Director Corinne Hoch (HOCH@columbia.edu). The cost of the camp is $120 with early registration; after June 5, is $125.
  4. Enjoy the new coffee time “Brewing at Belin” on Thursday mornings between 9 AM – 10:30 AM in the Family Life Center Library (Room 12)
  5. Visit Belin Community Garden, which was built by the Boy Scouts on the Field of Faith, and pick some fresh vegetables for you to enjoy and to share with others.
  6. Come to the first meeting of the Silent Auction Team this Wednesday, June 3 at 4 PM in the Family Life Center. All volunteers are welcome. Bring ideas for this year's Silent Auction that will be during the Fall Harvest Festival & BBQ. For more information, contact Teri Atkins (303.859.9452) or Jane Eason (803.920.8554).
  7. Be prepared for Hurricane Season, which starts on June 1. Learn more at:https://flash.org/hurricanestrong/preparedness/

See you Sunday,

Will
