Welcome to fall (almost). Monday is the official welcome of the season. The fall programs are underway with Bible studies, Sunday School curriculum, music programs, seasonal worship planning, Year of Kindness emphases, youth and children’s ministry events, golf tournament, Fall BBQ Festival, and more. Please keep watching the bulletins, newsletters, and webpage for more detailed information. We are glad you are a part of the ministries that serve as reminders of God’s presence and activity and the extensive ways many are served because of your faithful stewardship through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
As we continue to celebrate the Centennial Year of Belin Memorial, special artwork will be on display beginning this Sunday, September 21. At the founding of Belin Memorial in 1925, the Reverend William T. Bedenbaugh was the first pastor. One of his children, Roland, was then around 9 years old. Roland rendered drawings of two ships while living in Murrells Inlet. One drawing was of a sailing ship and the other of a steam vessel. These drawings were located on blank pages in the front of the Registry Book for the Waccamaw Circuit of the (then) Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
One hundred years later, children in the (now) Belin Memorial United Methodist Church are connected to these 100-year-old drawings. Under the guidance of Kim Oakley, Director of Children’s Ministry, the children of the Sunday School and Children’s Church added color-fill interpretation to the drawings, bringing them to life a century later. It is interesting that some of the children who participated in this art project are about the same age Roland was at the time he drew the pictures.
You are cordially invited to come by the Family Life Center to view and appreciate these works of art completed by children separated by one hundred years, while being connected through The United Methodist Church. It is a great reminder of the importance of our heritage and connection as disciples of Christ across the ages.
Other ways we stay “connected” to each other in ministry as we offer ourselves through our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness are:
