Message from the Provost

As we begin this new semester, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible milestone we achieved together in Fall 2024: a record-breaking enrollment of 27,506 students. This is the highest enrollment Georgia Southern University has seen since consolidation—a testament to your hard work, innovation, and commitment to academic excellence.

This achievement is more than a number. It represents the impact of your dedication to fostering an environment where students are inspired to thrive. Your efforts in teaching, research, and service have built a reputation that attracts students from across Georgia, the nation, and the world.

Some highlights from this record-setting year include:

  • Graduate Growth: We enrolled 3,888 graduate students, setting a new record and reflecting the appeal of our advanced degree programs.
  • Dual Enrollment Success: A 46.5% increase brought 1,550 high school students into our classrooms, preparing them for future academic success.
  • Diversity of Reach: Out-of-state enrollment surged by 28.1%, and international student enrollment reached its highest level in nearly a decade.

These accomplishments highlight your unwavering commitment to excellence and student success. From developing innovative curricula to creating an inclusive campus environment, you have made Georgia Southern a destination for academic achievement.

As we embark on 2025, our motto—Innovate & Inspire—charts our course forward. This year, we’ll soar beyond expectations by embracing innovation in our programs and creating pathways that inspire our students to achieve new heights. This semester offers transformative opportunities to showcase the excellence that defines Georgia Southern, including Conversations with the Provost, celebrating faculty achievements through the Promotion, Tenure, and Review Awards, and preparing to host the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) visitors in March, followed by the USG Board of Regents in April. These occasions will spotlight the exceptional work across our campuses, and I invite

each of you to participate as called upon as we continue to elevate Georgia Southern’s reputation and impact.

Don’t forget that the Faculty Annual Review (FAR) and Faculty Annual Evaluations (FAE) are due soon. Check with your department chair for your specific date. Several communications were sent in November, and the new dashboards and training tools went live last month to support this process. For more information and to access the training materials, visit the Faculty Resources section on the Provost website. These resources are designed to ensure you have everything you need to complete your reviews smoothly and on time.

Another item on your to-do list as we start this academic semester is to complete your Faculty & Staff Profile Form by Jan. 14. While the form is titled “Faculty Form,” it is intended for both faculty and staff to complete. This information will not only improve our website but also plays a key role in ensuring compliance with SACSCOC accreditation standards. Timely completion of this form is essential to maintaining our accreditation and highlighting the excellence of our faculty and staff. To get to it, simply click the GIF above. Issues should be reported to Mary Kate Allen.

Thank you for all that you do to elevate our institution. Your passion and dedication are what make this institution extraordinary. Let us embrace the opportunities ahead and continue to soar beyond expectations.

Update on the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Submission and Next Steps

We are pleased to announce that the final version of our university’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) has been completed. This comprehensive document will be submitted later this month to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) for review. The QEP represents a critical component of our accreditation process and outlines a 10-year strategic plan aimed at enhancing student learning and institutional effectiveness.

Following the submission, the university will continue preparations for the upcoming SACSCOC review visit, which is scheduled to take place from March 10-13, 2025. During this visit, reviewers will engage with members of our academic community to assess the plan’s implementation and its alignment with the university’s long-term goals.

In the coming weeks, the QEP Implementation and Assessment team will host a series of open forums for faculty and staff to learn more about the QEP and ask questions regarding this pivotal 10-year initiative. These forums will provide an important opportunity for the university community to engage with the plan and to gain a clearer understanding of its objectives and anticipated outcomes.

We encourage all faculty and staff to participate in these upcoming forums and to stay informed about the progress of the QEP. Further details will be communicated via email, and regular updates will be posted on the QEP website.

For more information and updates, please visit the QEP website:
